    "The Pipeline 12" 1969 Rickenbacker 381/12
I purchased this rare model from my friend Brian Carman, who was a member of the surf band The Chantays, co-wrote their hit single "Pipeline", and worked at the Rickenbacker factory for many years. This beautiful instrument was the top of the line and features a carved top and back! Not to be confused with the reissue 381/12V69.

December 2017 in Facebook RIC group...

    ""The Pipeline12" -- 1969 381/12
So called by yours truly because of its provenance. I purchased this guitar 10 years ago from my friend Brian Carman, co-author of The Chantays' "Pipeline", a 20-year employee at Rickenbacker, and a native of Santa Ana. In the early 90s, Brian & crew refinished this instrument from Azureglo to Mapleglo. They didn't produce many of these; this, in fact, may be the first (IA prefix/January 1969 -- note toaster pickups, not Hi-Gains introduced later in '69). John Hall at RIC would know the production numbers. Sadly, Brian passed away two years ago. With carved top and back, this was Rickenbacker's top of the line."

    Was originally Azureglo.
