A few key things to keep in mind about this bass are that the bridge pickup and scratch plate are not original. The pickup is a genuine Ricky spare from about 10 years ago and the plate was made by a guitar tech at the same time to match the original, reason being that at some point in its life it had a different pickup fitted in the bridge and scratch plate cut to accommodate.
So, here's the specs of the bass:
Rickenbacker Model 4001 in Mapleglo Serial number Dk572 manufactured in November of 1964. Same model as the one prized by Paul McCartney, extensively featured on Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour 1967, The White Album 1968 etc. etc.
Purchased in the autumn of 1972 by the current owner from the now defunct shop on the site of No.Tom Vintage and Classic Guitars - 6 Denmark Street London WC2
This bass has had a highly decorated playing career, during the early to mid seventies it was played in bands supporting but no limited to the following...........
Roxy Music
Thin Lizzy
The Strawbs
Fairport Convention
Uriah Heep,
Wishbone Ash,
Hawkwind
Status Quo
Edgar Broughton
Free
Manfred Mann
