"April 1964 4001 Rickenbacker bass, a piece of history of which I've been the proud owner, as a Paul Mc Cartney unconditional fan, since 25 years ! It is in playing condition but needs some proper fixing to restore it to a good condition. I have not changed a single thing about the bass since I own it and is in the exact same condition as I got it, as I always took great care of it.
The main problem about it, though, is the headstock suffering from a forward tilt, the neck has already been repaired in the past before I owned it, and is rather thin at the nut and first fret level, a guide has been added on the head to keep the strings in low position. There is a very thin crack line on the side of the neck so I have kept this bass untuned to reduce the tension and avoid any further injury anytime I didn't use it. The instrument definitely needs a specialised treatment to strengthen the neck and maybe reduce the head's tilt.
The bass is also missing its original horseshoe pickup and has another one on it, which does its job, probably dating from the 80s. It is also missing one of the four original knobs, and the pick guard is slightly cracked near a screw.
The electronic is all original as well as every other single part of the instrument. The neck is in one single part and runs through all the instrument. The original reddish tone of the outside colour of the sunburst has very interestingly and naturally diminished to leave a beautiful vintage more brownish colour which I find absolutely beautiful, it has not been repainted, it is the original fireglo colour, plus 54 years."
