"Don't Bother Me"
London's University College Hospital (December 1964)

~ From the New York Times - December 3, 1964 ~

LONDON, Dec. 2 -- Newspaper headlines and radio and television bulletins in London gave reassuring news throughout the day: Ringo Starr's tonsils were removed this morning.

A team of surgeons at London's University College Hospital announced that the operation had been "entirely successful" on the 24-year-old drummer of the Beatles.

Fans inquiring at the hospital were asked to call a special number, Covent Garden 2332. Persistent dialing, however, found it busy.

Inquiries elsewhere established that Ringo was sound asleep, with the prospect of an ice cream diet tomorrow. At his bedside is a record player so that he can hear the newest Beatles tune, already at the top of the charts here, called "I Feel Fine."

The British Broadcasting Corporation, however, was feeling the flush of embarassment after an announcer reading a radio news bulletin, said: "And finally, Ringe Starr's toenails have been successfully removed."
