I found an ad in our paper for a Rick for $300.
When I got a look at the 1966 12 string I was shocked. It had been 'hippified," painted flat black with dayglo shapes and words, the zig-zag man, peace signs and LSD.
I went ahead and bought the guitar, and took it to be refinished (I sure do hope it wasn't painted by Jerry Garcia or anything).
The flat black and dayglo paint had ruined the original fireglow finish, and despite wanting to keep it original, I chose to have it finished black
with just a hint of pearl purple (you can only see it if the light is just right). While stripping the old finish from the guitar
we found the black and white checked binding on the back of the guitar...how cool!! Oh yeah, forgot the bonus, the guitar came in its original case!!
This Rick sounds and looks great, man am I glad I got the paper that morning. |
