Welcome to the Penny Lane Guestbook. In a "Roundabout" way you will add to the growing body of Rickenbacker information by taking the time to share your thoughts. Sorry, I must go now and "shave another customer."

Comments: My first RIC was a 1966 365 Deluxe FG (OS) I bought new
when I was 17. Sold it 2 years later WITH a 2 year old
Bandmaster Reverb; let it ALL go for $350. Who says we
don't remember bad memories?
Since the 365 was my first guitar, I learned on that
wonderfully narrow neck and still don't understand the
whining I hear from people who can't get used to it. When I
play my '69 Gibson ES335, it feels clumsy to me and I keep
thinking I should get rid of it in favor of a 360/6.
As a 17 year old kid, I learned two things about owning a
RIC: it made you sound better than you are, and it was a
better chick magnet than a Corvette.
Those were the days.

Comments: Love this site. Kick myself that I've got rid of some of my
other Ricks: a Lennon 335 (looked great/played like a
dog!), a 360, a McGuinn 370, a 450, two 4001's, a 620/12, a
4005 (what was I thinking!). My 335 is the most AMAZING
guitar ever! My 4003 (or is it a V63?) is making money for
me every week- check out http://surf.to/that70sband for a
picture. Keep up the good work!

Comments: I'd like to own a rick someday. My dream guitar was a
Jetglo 1997 SPCVB. Sound Beatle-ish? Lennon's guitar
inspired me, I like the Who as well and John Fogerty. I
hope Rick reissues them again, very soon. But if they
don't, I my get a 370 with an Accent Vibrato on it in the
next year. But for now, my Yamaha FG-345 is my dream.
Anyway, this is a great site. Hope to report back soon on
the "dream" update. Till then, if you see a 1997 SPCVB,
send out a line to me.

Comments: Since my first visit in '92, I've been back to Penny Lane
many times. When Roger Cottrell owned the P.L. Winebar, I
spent time there on every visit. One long, wonderful
evening, I recall swapping tunes with Brian O'hara (the
Fourmost). Roger locked the door at 11PM, and turned off
the front light (legal requirement). Some 15 or 20 patrons
remained to hear Brian and I swapping tunes -- he'd play an
old American rock tune, by the likes of Buddy Holly or
Chuck Berry, and I'd respond with tunes by the Hollies, the
Zombies, Beatles, Kinks, Stones, or Jerry and the
Pacemakers. So much magic... so little time!

Ricks You Own: TR100 Amplifier Stereo Head

Comments: I purchased this amplifier in a pawn shop in the early 1990's. It still sounds great. It has inputs for the clean
"channel" and separate inputs for the distorted "channel". (Not channel switching) The distorted side has both
mono and stereo inputs. It was manufactured in Feb 1979, so the distortion is obviously not extremely heavy. It
does, however, have a very nice sounding slight overdrive. Currently, I'm using it to amplify my keyboard. Since
it is in stereo, it does this marvelously! Of course, it still sounds great with a guitar too!

Ricks You Own: 660/12/fg on order/should get it soon

Comments: Cudos and congrats to a very enjoyable/informative site. In
my career I owned 5 different 4001's, starting with my
first, a '72 fireglow. It was stolen from the trunk of my
car in the Mr Lucky's/Denver parking lot in 1974. What a
blow that was. None of the subsequent 4001's had the magic
of that 1st one. I heard Yes' Roundabout and had to have
whatever that guy was using to achieve that incredible bass
sound. Was a huge Chris Squire fan through the 70's.
Ironically, I was introduced to him by a mutual friend in
LA in the early 90's and spent a memorable (and very very
late) evening talking with him. I was totally cool and calm
but inside I was just freaking...this was Chris Squire
sitting accross the table from me! What a hoot. I
completely ruined my last 4001, it was a '73, by removing
the stock pickups and installing Gibson Thunderbird
pickups. What was I thinking?? I traded that bass on a new
Ibanez 8 string in Phoenix in the late 70's and that ended
my Rickenbacker ownership. Lately I have been yearning for
a Rickenbacker 12 string and recently have placed an order
for a 660/12/fg. It looks really great and hopefully the
wider neck will be good for my bass-playing hands. Its
great to see such interest in these wonderful Rickenbackers
by everyone. Keep it up. Cheers, Rw

Beatles and Byrds forum, how 'bout a Petty forum? I think
it's really neat to have info other than the usual fan-
trash...like, useful stuff that any gearhead can get into.

When I die, I'll find myself in a huge hall full of Rick
360-12s...millions, in fact...

If someone walks in the door and says "Play 'em"...I'll
know I've gone to heaven. If, however, someone walks in the
door and says "Re-string 'em"....I'll know I've gone to the
other place...
