Rickenbacker Sinistrality: August 31, 2000

Rickenbacker sinistrality a history of Left-handed Rickenbackers is the topic of this page. Approximately 10 percent of the general population is left-handed and of that 10% a much smaller number are guitar players. An analysis of the registered 1700 Rickenbackers at the present time reveals that approximately two percent are left-handed. It is hoped that John Hall will eventually read this and provide information regarding the actual percentage of left-handed Rickenbackers produced. For the time being, however, the 2% figure seems reasonable.

Left-handed Rickenbackers are unique and may look peculiar to right-handed persons given the upturned truss-rod cover and the upward pointing triangle fret-markers on the 360 series, for example. Perhaps the most famous left-handed Rickenbacker player is Paul McCartney with his left-handed Model 4001S bass.
