Re: Country gentleman or tennessee rose

I have both. I would say the Gent. Between the two for me, it seems to be the more versatile. They both have the Gretsch sound, and the Tennesseean is great for rhythm as well, but my inclination is still the Gent.

Re: Holy Biscuits, Fender's changed the American Vintage Line!!

I really liked the '62 era guitars a lot more. In related news, it also appears that the vintage line bass models are gone, too. The link under the Fender bass products to the American Vintage series just links to the new guitars. I guess there will be more roll-outs coming in the near future. The w...

Re: Holy Biscuits, Fender's changed the American Vintage Line!!

Looking at the lineup, there are some good things and some bad. First, it's nice that they're offering some more options on the Tele and the Strat. The color combos are sadly limited. It seems like they've lost their way though with offering models that are straying away from the beaten path of the ...

The upper horn on the Jag is sharper than the Jazzmaster.

Re: How Many Drummers Are There Onboard?

I play drums in addition to guitar and bass. I have a Gretsch Catalina Club set in white marine pearl. It provides plenty of stress relief after being around teenagers all day.

Re: Curt Mangan Strings & Gretsch Guitars

I put a set of D'Addario half-rounds on one of my Gretsch guitars and really like them a lot. They have more of the twang and snap I'd expect from the Gretsch without being full-on flats. You might look into those as well. I've had good luck with them on Rics and my Fender Jag as well.

Re: RIP Bob Babbitt

Every semester I show Standing in the Shadows of Motown to my high school film study students. When they first hear that they will be watching a documentary, they groan and complain, crying for another Spielburg. Then when we start listening to some of the music, they perk up. Actually watching thes...

Happy 4th! Hope everyone celebrating has a safe and happy holiday, and that anyone handling the pyrotechnics can still manage a full barre chord tomorrow.

Re: RIP Andy Griffith

He really was a versatile performer. Watch A Face in the Crowd and then No Time for Sergeants. Brilliant work from his pre-TV days. I watched a lot of reruns of his shows and always found him to be an immensely enjoyable presence.

Re: The Beach Boys Are Rickenbacker-less!

A CW 6 or 12 would be a nice, subtle tribute to Carl, especially on one of his signature songs like Darlin' or God Only Knows. Carl played an Epiphone Riviera 12 in concert throughout the latter half of the '60's and beyond, so in a way, this is a tribute and is just as accurate as a Ric. Granted i...

I haven't done anything yet. It hasn't moved at all recently and I'm not going to panic. Right now, it's playing great and I'm going to continue to enjoy it. A teacher's meager pay makes this the best possible solution for the time being.

Re: The Beatles' Mystery Strat

The 345 was George's. It made a brief appearance on the tour and some promo clips and went away. And as for the shot, it may well have been set up by the photographer when no one else was around.

Re: The Beatles' Mystery Strat

Belonged to an opening band, no? Maybe John decided he'd "have a bash" on it during soundcheck? If I had to guess, based on the groups that were on the bill with the Beatles - the Moody Blues, the Koobas, and the Paramounts - the guitar probably has its origins with the Paramounts. The Mo...

Re: If John, George, and Paul Didn't Play A Ric, Would You?

It took John and George to get me to Ric, but once I discovered how versatile the guitars were, I would have gone on the same way that I have. I have to wonder how many of the other artists that some of us have listed would have picked up Rics as well if it wasn't for John, George, and Paul.
