That’s also a great story! But the main thing I take from it Jeff is that you saw Genesis in 1973…I’m not prone to jealousy but in this case I’ll make an exception!

Painful isn’t it? Still, at least you know where it went.
Hope you’re ok by the way!

Re: Why do RICs click? RIC Newbie
The first thing I’d ask is are the setups on both basses the same? Same relief, same string height, same make and gauge of strings? Because all these things will affect how an instrument sounds acoustically, regardless of how it’s constructed. How many types of basses have you played? Because they’r...

Re: '64' RM199 rebuild continued, detective work.... (seeking 64 jack plate).
I always hated guitars with the strap button located on the heel; as has been said, they neck dive and hang away from you, which is horrendous for me. As a huge Lemmy fan I always wondered why he would do that, but I guess it must have worked for him. BTW, good to see you’re still around here Richar...

Re: Searching for '76 Jetglo 4001 s/n PL7996
Sorry to hear you haven’t found it yet. I had my first ever bass, a 1980 Rick 4001 in Jetglo, serial number TC915, stolen around 1986 from the band van in Hendon after a gig. Rather strangely, I’d also replaced the scratch plate (but not the trc) with a black one, so the bass looked just like yours ...

Re: Reverb Sighting - Could this be a neck-Thru 4000?
I had that bass for about a week, a few years back, before returning it to the shop. It needs a lot of work to restore it. It cost me me about £1499 and they even offered a significant discount if I kept it, which with hindsight I should have done as I could have fixed it up over time. It didn’t hav...

Re: 4030 Short Scale bass
Happened to be browsing at some online retailers and came across a few of these 4030 Short Scale basses in Midnight Blue with checkerboard binding and black hardware. Anyone have any experience with these? I know there have been a couple of previous VERY limited versions of this floating around. Wi...

Re: Lets talk about horseys
Welcome, Michael. I own myself a 4001CS and a V63,both from '91. The C64's had lower windings in the pu's, which I'm sure helps clean up their tone. This was my understanding too, that the C Series basses had lower output pickups as well as having the cap. Am I correct in believing that both pickup...

Re: Jon Camp - cap or no cap?
In my experience the effect of removing the cap varies from bass to bass. I’ve just done a first and actually replaced the cap in my ‘72 Azure, which is currently wearing TI flats (I normally bypass or remove the caps in my Rics). Possibly because of the flats, I feel it’s opened up the sound a bit....

Re: Is light fret buzz normal on a 4003?
Have you ever heard players like Geddy Lee or Flea play acoustically? It’s pure buzz, so much so that it’s actually part of their sound.

Re: Horseshoe WITHOUT the Cap
My ‘72 (neck-thru) and ‘73 (set neck) 4000 basses didn’t have the cap.

Jon Camp - cap or no cap?
Following on from another thread, from what I’ve seen Jon Camp typically played in stereo (please correct me if I’m wrong). Does anyone know if his basses typically had the cap in? I know they would have come like that but does anyone know if he removed them or kept them in?
