Rickenbacker 4001/3 bridge unit (not tailpiece) wanted

Hi, does anyone have a used Ric 4001/3 bridge unit (preferably with saddles but ok without) going spare that they’d be interested in selling? I don’t need the tailpiece, just the bridge unit. It’s for an aluminium tailpiece routed for a later (wider) bridge unit. I’ve put this in ‘Rickenbackers ...

Re: Updating the registration of an instrument

Hi Peter, thank you so much. Yes, I’m incredibly happy (I’ve sent you another PM which gives a little of the story). And with the updating of the register I now feel like it’s truly home, and not just a figment of my imagination! Thank you once again.

Re: Geddy's New Rickenbacker

OK, so there was one other bass built alongside of Geddy's new beastie, another one and only.

Here are the details of my new 4003 SPC MID:
- Vintage Toaster, 1/2" away from neck
- Horseshoe bridge pickup
- 2 Volume knobs / mono
- Full-width mica fret inlays
- New extra sparkly Midnight Blue ...

Re: Updating the registration of an instrument

The last time I heard from Gil was in January, when I alerted him to a spammer, whom he then banned. It seems he hasn't been active since mid February. Peter hasn't been active since mid October '25. Peter and Gil check in infrequently ever since the rules were somewhat relaxed and participation ...

Re: There's a lovely 1992 4001v63 on reverb

The neck on my ‘99 (think it was a ‘99, certainly the shorter headstock) was the biggest Rick neck I’ve owned by some margin. The same has gone for all the shorter headstock V63s I’ve played. Rick being Rick though, I’m sure they’re potentially all over the place. 😉

Re: There's a lovely 1992 4001v63 on reverb

I had a V63 from around 1999 IIRC. Nice bass, but the neck was far too big for me. Ones prior to maybe 1997/98 (? more correct long headstock is the giveaway) have much nicer necks IMO. FWIW the necks on the 2 x CSs I’ve owned (‘91 and ‘96) have been glorious.

Re: How would you describe this finish?

Ruby is a solid metallic finish, FWIW. I suspect you were thinking of Burgundyglo, but that’s definitely a pretty typical ‘70s Fireglo.

Re: The "magnet trick"

I use 2 x 1972 4001s and if anything the neck toaster on those (certainly on my Azure) is louder than the bridge pickup (cap out). I adjust the pickup height to level them up. I’d say my 4001CS bridge pickup is probably a little louder than the neck but where it’s an issue, or I’m after a specific ...

Re: Chris Squires RM DC172

Just out of interest, does anyone know if Chris’s bass would have had the cap in it? I probably already 8bow the answer to this question, but I’m getting to that age, sadly.

Re: New 4003 bridge pickup surround

Dunno…

A Ric wouldn’t a Ric without these little quirks?

I play these because they look so good AND they have a unique sound.

So do I, but if the action doesn’t go low enough it’s no good to me. And seeing as I CAN get the action low enough on most older ones (my action is about 1mm or ...

That’s one way of looking at it I suppose.

Speaking as someone who has super low action, having a bridge that doesn’t go low enough would stop me buying an instrument.Or would see it immediately returned if I didn’t already know ...

Re: New 4003 bridge pickup surround

I have a feeling that 4003s made from the time they went to the thinner neck profile until they introduced this new pickup surround will be very desirable over the coming years.

I have mine… The slim neck is nice. The new bridge is also nice but sadly, limits on how low you can lower the ...
