Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

On Saturday my band, Cartoon Food, supported Big Country, which was an amazing experience for us. The band and crew were so warm and kind, and Mark Brzezicki, who has played and recorded with a who’s who, said he went out front and watched us and thought we were great! It was a terrific night and t...

That was my understanding too.

Re: 4003 truss rod help

I bought the Ric driver and had someone thin the walls so it fits under. Having said that, on occasion I’ve taken the easy route and gone to a pro.

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric

This is number one (Feb ‘72, pre-skunk). It’s so weird seeing pics of me now, having lost a third of my body weight (not intentional, I was ill!). Thankfully the bass is the same! 9FF5BAAE-49DA-4244-8324-7566ED0DBF33.png Great color on that 4001 Thanks. It’s pretty dark. I’ve had a couple of people...

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!

Have to say, the only 4005 I ever played, I didn’t love. It was ok; the bridge pickup really didn’t work for me. Which is lucky for me, at the prices of the new ones! For that price, I could buy a very early ‘70s 4001 with all the goodies.

Current horseshoe vs highgain

I’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts on the differences tonally and in terms of output - assuming there are any - between the current incarnations of the reissue horseshoe and higain. I’m thinking of trying one of them in one of my other basses and obviously they’re not cheap. I’ve had the ol...

Speaking as someone who is still gigging as he gradually falls apart, I can certainly see the positives in that!

Re: Captain Beefheart, Rick bass

This is the only Beefheart track I’ve ever liked, but I really love it. The Ric bass helps, obviously, but the vibe is great. And the guitar solo is reminiscent of Gilmour’s solo on Another Brick In The Wall, to my ears, except it came several years earlier. I believe these were disparagingly referr...
