Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

There will be tomorrow Bert. Broke the E string when tuning (.... :? ) so got kinda fed up with it and put the Ric in its case ever since. My band plays a couple of Rush songs so it is time to resurrect the beauty and put it to work.

Stay tuned.

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

Picked up my bass after a couple of days and....*shock* what the hell happened ???? Action is insanely high all of a sudden. My Ric looks like figure 3 in the picture below.

Bass was stored in it's case in my house.

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

And yes..played the first gig with my new Rickenbacker.! Went down a storm: bass looked great and sounded even better.
These Dutch southern rockers gave me the nod of approval after just a couple of tones and a quick peek on the headstock during soundcheck. I used the Ric pretty much for all songs ...

Rotos too.

Played a sweaty gig with 'em this afternoon and well, they are pretty much shot now :(

I don't keep 'em in shape or anything: I use them for band and home practice and a couple of days before a gig I change them for a set of fresh ones.

Re: Help please?

Welcome from a fellow newbie :D

Maybe try a Gallien and Krueger combo? I noticed that my 4003 absolutely slays on my 700RB/410, even better than on my SVT with fridge.
I use a Tech21 PBDR for growl and dirt if necessary.

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

Woohoo! Set-up complete. :D The adjustable pup poles are brilliant, adjusting the neck, string height and intonation took some time. Sounds killer with Rotos.

Tomorrow I am going to learn a couple of songs for the gig on Sunday so some little more tweaking and then she's ready.

Re: What drew you to Rickenbacker?

Mine's a practical one: I tried to replicate the early Deep Purple/ Roger tone on my Fenders. Used all kind of amp combination and effects and just couldn't get there.

Found *this* forum after doing a search on Rogers equipment on google last week. Bought a 4003 this week and am amazed by this ...

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

A reissue horseshoe makes it even better.
And put the treble pup cover back on :D  It's part of the experience

LOL :D Maybe on the next Ric ... :P

Mike
That would be the MG 4003, right?

Don't forget the .0047µF cap in line with the horseshoe pickup when you do that upgrade. 8 ...

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

Thx again Bert.

The saddles are not wobbly, they are just to tight because of the crooked hole. I have got a complete metal/motorcycle workshop on my own so I can correct this easily. This will be done Saturday when I got boatloads of time.

Today I have been playing around with my Ric and it does ...

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

And I'm finished for today. I need my shop to correct the string guides and to reset 1 screw of the bridge which is sticking out too much.

Re: Hunting for a 4003 in The Netherlands

Sure Wim. First I have to water the money tree in the backyard :? :D

Started with the set up of my new and already beloved bass guitar. It has a few issues with string height (way to high) and me being a really hard player causing the strings to hit the pups.

Wow, that's some great service offered there Frank! Amazing.
FYI: I am going to install one of your bezels this evening. Looks like a quality product to me, and with a serial #
