Re: 1965/66 - Were Wavy Grovers used?

I just had to post that "Wavy Grover" would be a fantastic band name. :P

Re: Model of the week 21: The 4004 Laredo

With a passive VVT setup, different VV settings actually change the resonant peak of the pickups. So you not only get the different blends, you also get more subtle control over the tone of the pickups themselves. Of course VVT has problems too, due to how the pickups load each other down. It's all ...

Re: Model of the week 21: The 4004 Laredo

What's a fair price range to expect to pay for a used Laredo these days?

Re: model/year with widest nut?

There will always be some variation but it will be in the order of millimeters and unintentional.
4.19 cm to 4.41 cm (the range I have seen measured so far) is 2.2 mm difference. Granted that is a very small amount, but it's enough to consider "worth noticing" if one is interested in 5-string and ...

Re: model/year with widest nut?

Hmmm... Over in that "girth" thread I saw measurements from 4.2 cm to 4.4 cm, and one person said their '73 was "almost a centimeter narrower at the nut" than their '99.

model/year with widest nut?

I tried to read through the "girth" thread, and I did a search, but didn't really come up with an answer to this question. Which model(s) and year(s) of Ric had the widest nut?

Re: 1978 Rickenbacker 4008 8 String

Hi all,
I'm a novice at Rics; does the back of the neck where it joins the headstock look right to you guys?

I bet Jps is right, because I can confidently swear the Aphex I had was not true bypass, but other people here swear theirs _is_, so especially if Aphex is currently advertising TBP, they must have changed it in the recent past. Good move if they did! If I can verify that, I'll edit my review ...

You're welcome! Just so I understand better- when you say:
"...if I leave the Volume level alone but increase/decrease the Drive, the level of compression changes as expected, but also the signal level through the pedal"

Do you mean that the overall signal level is increased or decreased? Does ...

As I wrote in my review, the EBS is excellent at doing heavy compression in its multi-band mode. Another good multi-band pedal is the (discontinued) Trace Elliot SMX, although it is more of gentle-moderate compressor.

Hi all,
I'm the fellow with the reviews page linked earlier. It's true as noted that the opinions there are subjective. I was confused, though, by this assertion:

"I think he missed the point of the two stages working together - the Drive stage sets the amount of compression but also has a gain ...
