Re: What Combo Amp Would You Buy?

I have never played thru a Markbass, but the best amp I ever heard is the Acoustic Image. I use it for both my upright and the Rickenbackers. The AI is made more like a "stereophile" speaker than the standard bass cab and has (IMHO) vastly cleaner sound than most cabs. The famous "piano like" highs ...

Re: Favorite Flats

I have TI Jazz flats on my C64 and they are not at all "thumpy". The sustain is not quite what it is with nickel rounds, but it is plenty long. I really believe that there is not an easy way to predict the sound of strings on a given instrument. There are too many variables. Bottom line is that you ...

Re: Model of the Week 24: The "C Series" 4001C64 and C64S

I have a fireglo C64 that I got from a forum member a couple of years ago. I strung it with TI Jazz Flats and it is really my favorite for "richness" of tone. That is among the following: Mapleglo 400w with Rick strings, Blueboy 4003 with GHS Boomers, 4004 Laredo with Boomers and a 4004 Cheyenne ...

Re: Hey -- Check this out! (Chick Singers).

I'm neither up nor down on "effects", but as to the girl singer, here is a near verbatim quote from my son. (This was after I asked him why he had to add a "decoration" to the band). He said -- Dad, this girl is a superb singer; she can roar like a lion, shreek like a banshee or sing like a ...

Hey -- Check this out!

Follow this link and you will see my son (the Greek) and his band "Dickens Zoo". Notice the bass -- it is a 1980 Rickenbacker lefty that I bought for him a year ago. Nice to see that he is playing it. Whoever recorded this must have be like me -- ignore the singer -- listen to the bass player!

I have used Ernie Ball flats on both a 4004 and my C64. Good sound, but quite a bit higher tension than the TI Jazz flats. The EB's cause some tailpiece lift on my 4001 C64 however.

I had some fairly bad lift on my C64 and did replace it with a Hipshot and drilled the extra holes. I like the Hipshot for its functional features like individual string height adjustment and ease of intonation, BUT it made the bass way too heavy. So, I straightened the original tailpiece and ...

4004 Bridge Adjustment Problem

I have a 4004 Ci and a Laredo. The old Ci has a very low and comfortable action that I have never been able to get with the Laredo. It finally occurred to me that the height of the fingerboard might be different on the two basses. As it turns out, the height of the fingerboard where it is cut off at ...

WD-40 is not a suitable product for use on bicycles. As pointed out above, it is mainly a cleaner and not a very good lubricant. Bicycles need top quality grease in all bearings and a light chain lubricant on chains. NO WD-40 anywhere! Take it from a former bike racer.

Keith -- Get some contact cleaner from Radio Shack or any electronic parts house. Try cleaning the pots with it. If you can get the WD-40 out of the pots, the hum might subside. Otherwise, it is not too hard to replace the pots.

I play any one of my five RIC's in church every Sunday. Usually it's a guitar and bass + singers. Occasionally we have piano and mandolin as well. I am using an Acoustic Image Contra Combo (400 watts, 20 lbs. is a real back saver). The bass that gets the most comment is the FG 4001 C64 which is ...

4005 Bass

I have a hankering for a 4005, but actually know nothing about them. How do they sound? Do they have dual truss rods? Does anyone know what happened to the one (4005) that CME had on ebay recently?

You can get "Coconut Cleaner" at www.corycare.com

They sell several nice products especially made for pianos and other fine wood musical instruments -- like RIC guitars and basses.
