fretboard radius for 1985 4003FL

Does anyone here know the radius of the fretboard is on a 1985 4003FL? I looked on the rick website and it says Crown radius on 10 inches, i have also seen 12" radius for Rick basses elsewhere. I want to sand the neck with a radius block and bought a 10" block but it seems a little too cur...

Yes I wouldn't mind grabbing one of those, taxes are coming back soon but the wife might have a different idea.

Re: Which flatwounds for new 4003s?

I've been using Fender 9050ML's flatwounds on my P Basses and jazz basses for about 40 years. I'm guessing that the 4003s should use a lighter set. I have a 9050L set waiting for my new bass to show up. I have used Pyramids in the past but don't like the feel. Looking for string suggestions that wo...

Re: Selling a vintage Rick bass -experiences?

Selling on ebay is easy, put in a minimum bid (I would put the lowest you'd accept) and put in a buy it now price of a more than you think it will sell for. These basses are rare and a lot of people would probably want them, I think it would go higher than 4K too. If you only want to sell to certain...

I wouldn't need one at this point but I think it would be welcomed.

Re: Make my 4003 Meaner

The pots used when your bass was made speced out at around 180K, which choked off the high end clarity and definition in the tone. I build wiring harnesses for Rick guitars and basses blueprinted to 60's/70's specs using 500K tone and 250K volume pots in matched pairs. I can also incorporate the vi...

Re: rickosound problem

Reviving an old thread rather than creating a new one... 8) If the Rick-o-Sound is just a simple stereo output, then the individual pickups should technically give the same output as when using a mono cable in the regular output jack, no? I ask this because I discovered that when I plug a regular g...

Re: Make my 4003 Meaner

Buy some 70's 4001 pickups, they're not usually too expensive on ebay or better yet contact Sergio and have him either rewind yours or make you some, they're great pickups.

Re: Lets talk about horseys

Sepp, does Sergio do horseshoes, or just rewinding? I haven't really talked with him since the days when we both had 21 fretters! I love the tone on those old horseys, but it seems like Squire was the only one able to get one that worked like a charm.. The 4003 bass in question is a 2009 model,so i...

Re: New 4003 owner here....with a question

I am trying not to overthink it....I'm really just curious about the fact that they are not as "linear" as other passive basses. Specifically if that's normal for late model 4003's. Said another way, is my instrument defective or is the behavior to be expected from a stock 4003? Thanks. W...

Re: Fretless

I've had several, currently have an 85 4003fl. they used to have side markers where every fret would be but sometime in the early 2000's they just used side markers from a fretted 4003 which to me doesn't make sense as the markers are not usable at least for me, they are in the middle of the 3rd 5th...

Re: Wavy Grovers - Should I Be Afraid?

There is a "cure" for those, but i am not the person to give you the particulars....perhaps Joseph Starost? Or Paul W? Yup I had a bass with wavy Grovers and they worked very well, the case can come off with everything inside falling out, when i bought the bass two of them were apart but I...
