Re: New 4003S body/neck compared with 4001C64 questions
Never mind the C64, haha! How does it compare to a new 4003 or a late 70's 4001? I fell in love with a jetglo 4003S, first new Rick bass I've wanted to buy in a long time.

This begs the question: Why won't Rickenbacker make these for us here in the US?

Re: Weak e string on 4003 bass
I have had this problem on various 4001's and 4003's over the years and never found one single thing that causes it although you would think the moving the pickup closer to the string would fix it, it usually doesn't. Years ago JH's fix as he posted here was to turn the truss rod(s) a hair as someti...

Re: Fretless Available - I'm Gonna Grab It
For strings I've been using Elixir light gauge nanoweb coated strings, they are not quite as bright as round wounds out of the box but sound good and last a LONG time and they're round wounds but won't eat up the fretboard. I started out on a fretless P bass and it took me a long time to get used to...

Re: pup squeal
Does it squeal or does it hum, or both? And what do you mean by build up? I've had basses squeal before from facing my amp with the volume on 11 although this was a P bass and it would instantly stop when I got the hell away from the amp, turned around etc. I've had basses kind of hum although buzz ...

Re: Mouradian Guitar Co.
Glad to hear it's sounding so great, Bob. 8) Btw, what type of strings did you put on it? Hi Matt, I use Dean Markley Blue Steel strings usually. I used the same strings that were on it, they sound good and last a long time. I think I have medium gauge on it now, i change gauges with how I feel, ha...

Re: New Bass Day!
Very nice! My first Ric was a '78 Mapleglo 4001. Bought it new in the summer of '78 just after graduating from high school. I loved that bass. The neck was thin and fast. Enjoy your latest addition. My first was a 77 mapleglo, bought it at E. U. Wurlitzers in Boston brand new in 1977, it's long gon...

Re: Mouradian Guitar Co.
I've heard he knows his stuff. :) If Chris Squire is going to have a custom made... Damn, I'd leave the 4000 alone. But I guess if I really wanted a 4000 I could convert my 75 4001. He made the custom bass years ago and had a picture on a current UK magazine with Squire on the cover holding the bas...

Mouradian Guitar Co.
Several months ago I asked for opinions on where to bring my 79 4001 in Ma. I got several replies and decided to go with Jim Mouradian and I'm glad I did. This bass led a rough life, it was the bass i made all the mistakes with learning how adjust truss rods, it fell over frontwards once and rebroke...

Re: Neck Pickup height
There is another trick that I learned from Ted Staberow to boost the neck pickup's output without raising the pickup. Just put one of these Neodymium magnets under the pickup. http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BZ082 http://www.kjmagnetics.com/prodimages/BZ082L.jpg Where is Ted anyway? ...

Re: Fattest Neck 4001/4003?
I always thought the mid 90's to late 2000's had the thick necks, I had a 92 with a thin neck. late 70's of which I've a few are medium (for Rick). That being said there are variations ever year or at least there were variations, don't know about the new ones.
