John,I killed an old Jazz neck with them, but had no trouble on a 4001. I like the original equipment Ric roundwounds myself, they are sweeter sounding than rotos (Rotos sound harsh to this ear) and just as bright (and last longer) They are also a lighter gauge than rotos (the A and D strings) they ...

I have never had any problems using Standard gauge Rotosound roundwounds, but have had problems with the Fender roundwounds, much more tension than Rotos, I used roundwounds for almost thirty years on all my basses( Rotos usually and Blue Steel), but I have always loved the 60's bass sound, McCartne...

I agree with Jeff, the main problems with '70's Rics are the necks and truss rod system, you have to be careful what kind of strings you put on them. They were designed for light gauge flatwound strings, and the necks (most) won't take a lot of tension. I have owned several and was putting Fender me...

Hi Paul (and everyone else) Your bridge and tail piece assembly is identical to mine, I cannot see the Jetglo saddles well enough in the foto to judge, but ours are identical, very nice bass by the way, I have a soft spot for Mapleglos, I've always wanted a Mapleglo Fretless. Actually I have compare...

John and John, Yeah, on this bass, the bridge saddles look like aluminum, now that you mention it, it is kind of a soft shine, not bright like chrome. Since I have been in Peru´for 4 months and don't have the bass here, I can't tell for sure, it looks like it is original to the bass though, and the ...

I've been using Fender Med. light Stainless flats on my Rics, I like the high tension and the sound (very clear with a nice bottom) but worry about the tension on the necks, has anyone compared the Pyramid flats with the Fenders? I tried the Rotosound flats , I bought two sets and both had dead G st...

I have a question for that has me stumped, I have owned more than twenty Rics in my time, (first one, new in '77) but have owned older ones. I have a '79 4001 Mapleglo with an unfinished neck, I think it is rosewood and it is darker than other Ric necks with the Urethane on them, and I sure that it ...

Hi Paul, Thanks for the welcome, yeah the 4001 necks were a lot thinner than the 4003 necks, I like the 4003's though, especially the newer ones, great pickups, the clip light goes on on my practise amp on the standard input with the 4003's! It's a solid state b-15, sounds ok for a solid state amp, ...

I'm new here and haven't much time but for all it's worth, I have owned two V63's in my time, one a 2000 and the other a 2002 (1st week). The 2000 Fireglo had a very loud toaster pickup in it, all the bottom you could want, the horseshoe was also very hot, they blended beautifully, on the other hand...
