I came here to see the same thing, he made me a neck pickup for my 4001 years ago that is excellent, just wanted to stop in and say hi to him.

Used Rics are more expensive than now ones now, it's crazy.

How is everyone doing here? This is my yearly post. I was wondering if anyone here knows what year Ric 4003 pickups got the two ridges on top that surround the buttons on top? I want to say I first started seeing them sometime during the later 1990's but am not sure, if someone here could narrow it ...

I like the newer Ruby better than the old, it seems a little brighter to me, may be the metallic component.

I've tried flats before but haven't liked them. Lately, I've wanted to switch back to flats and got the Labellas. I've seen people praise them here, but you know, people hype what they like. I can't believe how wonderful my Ric sounds with flats as opposed to rounds, at least for what I play. I'm 1...

I don't post here very often anymore but I just passed 17 years.

I had a couple of early 90's 4003's and I liked them, they had thin necks and powerful pickups. I also had a 1978 4001 and it was a great bass, wish I'd never sold it.

I notice these are double rod unlike the last few specials. There was speculation here and other places if RIC would be moving to single rods on the 4003 and 4003s as well. I hope they stick with the dual truss rods, but then again I still like the 4001 rods the best.

Put some high tension strings on it and let it sit. I once bought a 4001 with a perfectly flat neck and no matter what I did with the truss rods it wouldn't budge, couldn't put any relief in it. I prefer round wounds on my Rics, got DR sunbeams on both my Rics, 1979 4001 and an 85 4003FL I superglued the neck on the fretless so I can put anything on it. I've tried flats on them and when I get my next Ric which will be a 4003S I'll probably throw either La Bella or Fender flats on it, I just...
