Re: Will changing string gauges affect my Ric's neck?
Agreed that a lighter right hand is the way to go and something I need to work on.
That says a lot about those TI's if people think they're flats. My first thought when I saw the prices of them were, "That's insane!" But then I remind myself how much I just dropped on my Ric and things fall into ...

Re: Will changing string gauges affect my Ric's neck?
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
I'm happy to report that even though I did buy the truss rod tool, I didn't need it. I put the lower gauge Funkmasters on and the neck didn't change at all. I'm getting a small bit of fret buzz on the E when I pluck hard because of the increased flexibility ...

Re: Will changing string gauges affect my Ric's neck?
Did my Ric come with a tool that will allow me to adjust the truss rods, or do I need the one shown here at POTR?

Re: Will changing string gauges affect my Ric's neck?
Thanks Jeffs.
Ok, well I guess I have to learn how to do this stuff at some point. I will go ahead and order up some of the lighter gauge strings and throw caution to the wind and see what happens.

Will changing string gauges affect my Ric's neck?
I'm not certain of the actual gauge of strings that are on my Ric right now. When I bought it a couple of weeks ago, I told the bass tech at Dave's Guitar Shop that I planned on using 45-105 gauge strings. The strings that came on the bass appear to be those gauges as they seem to be the same sizes ...

Re: Question about 4003 Pickup cover removal
Okay then, I'm going to dive in and do it the right way and just take off the strings.
I don't necessarily find working on guitars tedious. I'm just afraid I might screw something up in the process and not be able to get it back together again.
Thanks guys.

Question about 4003 Pickup cover removal
I see that on Joey's Bass Notes there are basically two ways to remove the pickup cover - one that involves taking off all the strings and the other way that does not.
I want to remove the pickup cover and also install a treble bezel at the same time. Is there a general consensus among the ...

Re: Dave's Guitar Shop in Wisconsin?
Just as a follow-up to my original inquiry about Dave's Guitar Shop -
I went ahead and ordered a new 4003 in Jet Glo and my transaction with Dave's was fantastic. Bryan Butler is their bass guy and I must have spent a good 45 minutes on the phone with him before I placed my order. During our ...

Re: New Bass Day! Ricky 4003
Thanks again for all the great words. I can't wait to get to know this bass.
Deluxe treble bezel on the way from Pick of the Ricks! Will probably change the strings at the same time.

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm over there as well. And I know it's all subjective but this thing just feels right in my hands and sounds great to my ears. Hey, to each his own.jps wrote: Ever go to TB?![]()

Thanks guys for the nice words and also regarding the Schallers. That's one thing to cross off my list.
Sorry about the pic. I tried "rotating right" but it still came out on its side. Grrr..

New Bass Day! Ricky 4003
Well, after much contemplating and a bit of research, I finally pulled the trigger on a new 4003 in Jet Glo. She just arrived today. It looks, sounds and plays wonderful. I realize it's not saying much coming from a Squier VM Jazz (which still is a great bass for the price), but I don't know how ...

Dave's Guitar Shop in Wisconsin?
Does anyone have any experience with this retailer? They're not local to me and I'm possibly interested in purchasing from them online. They are an authorized dealer for many major brands (including Rickenbacker).
