Re: 4001 string recommendations

Please let me know if any UK sellers start stocking that balanced set.

Thanks!

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

Congrats to your wife then too! :-)

It was quite surprising an experience to be able to do that, but of course I don't regret it...

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

Of course they are :-) It escaped my mind strangely, I mixed the saddle up with the nut (cowboys probly would chuckle at this...)

As for smoking, it was a weird thing, I really enjoyed it, but wasn't keen on the long term health consequences, so I just stopped and never went back. Weirdly I never ...

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

Thank you guys!

Exactly my thoughts actually.
I also thought about the stains coming from smoker's fingers, HECK! Come to think of it, they could even have been mine, as I was a heavy smoker at the time I bought it sometime in 2003, and I quit in 2009 :-DDD How could I have forgotten about that ...

Re: 4001 string recommendations

Thanks, Jeff,
I guess if there are battlescars on the finish, the original pickguard might have suffered fatal injuries at some point... All screws are present though,
and I ran through the Joey's Bass Notes "Recognizing Rick Bass Copies" article, and everything seems to be fine as far as I can ...

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

Hmm...

The second from left is my fave of the MGs...
then again, I don't think anything trumps the Jetglo 4001/03's pure rock'n'roll, down to business look.

Back to OP, does anyone have advice on pickguard yellowing? Do I have to worry about uneven/spotty yellowing of the white plastic, or take ...

Re: 4001 string recommendations

Thanks for the advice Jeff (hope you don't mind), I was thinking about a thorough cleaning, but that depends on whether I need to do something about the slight tail lift or not... I don't want to mess with the set up, as I really like it as is.

Thanks Blackstar, I'll check the price on the D'adds ...

Yep, looks like this with a bit better lighting to show the grain:

And while I'm usually not a fan of natural finishes, this is a seriously good looking bass.

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

The washers go on the two screws visible. Between the tail piece and the body there is a small gap at that point.
Hmm, I thought the washers/spacer block (if made instead of using washers) went under the three screws below the bridge, between the body and tailpiece as the cavity there is deeper ...

Re: 4001 string recommendations

Yes, I think I'll ask my fave little guitar shop who stock Newtones if they have the roundcores, and ask their luthier (a pro fortunately) if he's familiar with Ricks if the trussrod/action needs tweaking after the restring.

By the way, should I be changing strings one at a time to avoid movement ...

Re: New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

I haven't read up on the washer-method yet, but the lift is not something that seems to affect the instrument currently. It was there when I bought it, and hasn't changed visibly in the last 8 years, so I'd only do work on it if it's absolutely necessary.

I don't know how the body would take ...

New guy, and '82 JG 4001 questions.

Hello everyone!
I'm new here, and owner of a Jetglo 4001 from Oct. 1982. going by the serial number.
This machine is so badass I had to buy it on first play, putting down a deposit and saving up for some months as a student about 8 years ago.

It is a lovely guitar with great playability and sound ...

Re: 4001 string recommendations

Thanks guys,

I was moving towards the TI rounds or some flatwounds, so I'll check availability.

OK, I checked my online stores, and I have a choice of TI JR 344 roundcore, roundwound nickels going: 043 - 051 - 068 - 089 I guess these are the Jazz Rounds, or flats 43-100, or the "Superalloy ...

Re: 4001 string recommendations

Hi guys, first post here, so a big HELLO! And thanks for keeping this place going everyone!

My Jetglo 4001 is in desperate need of a string change, but as it's my first bass, and my first Rick, I would like You to help me find the right strings for the specific sound that made me buy it on first ...
