Re: Rickenbacker.com has been offline recently

I wonder.... Will the new site sell all their instruments direct like Fender and Gibson.....(doubt it, but it would be very cool if...!) Direct to consumer (DTC) would be a nightmare. Fender and Gibson can do that because they produce a vast number of instruments each year and they're giant enough ...

I would be cool if it was the first 1996 ever made but that's probably impossible to prove a good 60 years (as of this month) later.
...Actually it can be proven (but it's not the first one).

Re: 12 string guitars with curved headstock

Squier has reissued the XII and in my limited taste tests is better than any ‘60s example, but still pales compared to a properly set up Rick 12er. Gotta disagree on that. The “Alternate Reality” Electric XII (which wasn’t a Squier, it was MIM) was a valiant effort and cool to see in production aft...

Re: Touch Up paint for Fireglo, or any other RIC color?

Any touch-up you put there is guaranteed to look worse than it does right now. Since Rickenbacker CV finish is catalyzed (unlike lacquer) to does not touch-up easily. The touch-up paint does not melt into earlier layers like lacquer wood. Sometimes you can get away with Jetglo touch-ups using enamel...

Re: Early Rose Morris 1996

Very nice indeed! I’m so glad your dad didn’t sell that guitar and was able to pass it on to you. Hold on to it! The serial number is very easy to decipher and you are right about most of what you wrote. The guitar was made in January 1964 and was in the very first shipment of guitars going to Rose ...

Re: Rick AzureGlo = Finish colour shift under lights?

Yep echoing what others here said.

It's simply an ambered clear coat, it should give that vaguely tan color under blacklight. That's normal.

If it's early 80s and it's blue, the guitar is Azureglo, no question about it.

Re: Another truss rod ?? ‘76 4001

This one arrived with the fretboard separated from the neck in the first 3 frets area, which I understand this is fairly common, particularly for those who dont know how to properly adjust the dual truss rods on a RIC. It was a simple fix to reglue the board to the neck... however... in trying to r...

Re: May 1967 and the ‘mystery cases’

You guessed it, I am trying to argue that the case that came with my very nice 615 is, in fact, the original case in which it was shipped. I fully admit this is mere speculation, but the May ’67 pattern is so completely different from any month before, of after, that this theory is really tempting ...

Re: Question about this combo 450(?) my grandfather bought

The fascinating thing to me about this guitar is the double pickguard. IIRC, the other two Combo 650 models that are known have a single-layer pickguard with a little notched cutout where the pickup sits (I'll let the owners of those guitars share photos if they like). Perhaps this one was assembled...

Your grandfather made the purchase of the century, I’ll say that much. Exceedingly rare Rickenbacker right there.

Re: Difference in Toaster pickups

They’re exactly the same. I assume you are referring to the type that are mounted in a Pickguard versus top mounted?

One has the mounting in the pickup threaded, the other is drilled straight through.

Re: Ebony Fingerboards

There was another one-off guitar made in 1968 with an ebony fretboard (a jetglo 366/12 OS with converter comb). It recently surfaced and sold on Reverb.

Ebony is not generally used for normal production Ricks, only some special runs and one-offs.

Re: 300 series return to 21 frets

A lot of players prefer a chunkier neck regardless of brand, skinny necks can be cramp inducing to many players including myself. Historically accurate to a particular era is not always preferable, and let’s also be mindful of the fact that there are iconic Ric players that famously played the chun...

Re: 300 series return to 21 frets

Not to mention the neck feel. The neck is a vintage throwback profile and pretty much everyone that has held one prefers it. Absolutely. It really is a huge improvement, the new neck shape (both guitars and bass models). Very comfortable and easy to play. It looks to me like the new profile is skin...
