Re: My Apologies - Another "String" Question Thread

Roto 66 and TI flats are sort of the extremes on both sound and tension, aren't they? If you want rw,I've had great luck with Kalium (formerly Circle K) balanced tension hybrid strings, and you can get them in seeming infinite sizes/sets. The 40-100 or 45-105 sets are not nearly as high tensioned as t...

Thanks,Bruce! The AVRI '57 Precision is the first Fender bass I've ever loved from the get go. It's a joy to
play, and a nice variation from all my Ricks.

Funny all the cool iterations of Ric basses that exist on an unofficial level. There are lots of great looking, often great sounding, mods out there.
Thanks,Cassius!

Wow, lovely bass. Funny all the cool iterations of Ric basses that exist on an unofficial level. There are lots of great looking, often great sounding, mods out there. The one thing I don't get is that really heavily modded Rick on the right side of Woody's group photo. That one required ...

NBD JG Laredo gradually gone tornado

I posted this bass when i bought it used a few monthes back. I had plans to have it modded to look like my very first Rickenbacker,a modded all-black 4000 i had briefly back in the early 70's. Then i started getting other ideas. Dane has done a beautiful job, replacing the hb1 pickups with a ...

Re: 4004 CII question on changing hadware..

When I got my first 4004, a 2004 Mapleglo Cii, I replaced most of the hardware for chrome, except for the jack plate and screws that hold it in place. ......and I replaced the Schaller tuning keys with Hipshot Ultralites, and the ABM bridge with a Hipshot A Style bridge. Hey there,Jeff, Do you have...

Re: 4004 CII question on changing hadware..

Personally i like gold hardware on JG. (And every other color except mapleglo-). I'm getting my 2015 modded JG Laredo back from Dane later today,(says Fedex tracking), but i don't think your gold parts would work too well with the big chrome piece now in the middle of the bass...... I swapped the ha...

Re: I am surprised at the strict Ric warranty stringset term

Mr.Hall was referring to the same Rotos that Chris Squire used. Ever seen the neck on Chris's bass? It's so bowed you could shoot arrows with it, and there's no way it will even intonate. Chris was still using his RM in concert up till the last. The way he plays all over the neck on any given Yes s...

Re: I am surprised at the strict Ric warranty stringset term

I've tried pretty much all of these string sets over the years on various Ricks. I liked the Labella ltf set,but found them a bit subdued sounding on my fretless Cii. I just swapped them out for the Optima RB set. It may not quite be the 2nd coming  of Maxima, but they are brighter and fuller s...
