Re: Chris Squires RM DC172
This is a bit off topic, but a few years ago I acquired an early 4001CS made in 1991 and like many in the early numbers it has yellowed into what looks like a Yellow Cab limited edition. It plays like a dream and I love it, but I'm curious if there is any rubbing or polishing compound that will ...

it looks a LOT like this….a 2008 factory fretless 4003 converted to a single pickup with a 4000 series pickguard.
This one also has hipshot tuners and a hipshot ric replacement tailpiece. it will have a white TRC and Pickguard within the next couple of weeks!
So….did you do it yet ...

Yeah, I agree that if you're only going to have three knobs, a blend would be better than two master volumes. Though to be honest I'd rather just have BVV. I've never found tone knobs useful.

Re: String Poll for Rickenbacker Bass Players
Out of those 4 choices, I vote Yes!
I’ve had all 4 types (and more) on my departed 74 4000 over the years. The Cheyenne too.
It’s fun seeing how many different tricks you can get out of that 1-trick pony.

Gold is going to look fantastic with that burgundy color!
I’m a huge fan of the original 4000 pickguard shape, and backpainted gold acrylic.

Great band, And your AC sounds amazing. Both Your playing, and the bass tone!
It has that lovely “Rick meets J bass” sound I love, especially on Moondance. So nice to hear one of these basses outside the usual ...

And that's fine, but it's not the sound most people are looking for when they're looking at a Ric.
It can get really close.

I’ve had every one of my 4004 models original 1v1t minitoggle harnesses replaced with several different configurations.

LOVE The fatter skunk stripe, and the bound headstock completes the look AFAIC.
Also LOVE practical bridge. What is the bridge pickup?

Re: New 4003SPC with new standard pickup surround covers
But the 4004 also sounds very different from a 4001/4003 in my opinion. If RIC had kept the electronics the same as the 4003, the outcome might have been different.
And to me, that's a great sound! :D

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Nice!
If I were still gigging, I'd seriously try a 4004 of some sort again.
It is a very nice bass! This picture was from one of my last club gigs. My very last gig was in August 2022, at the Del Norte county fair.
I used my ‘98 Cheyenne at that show. We had a good reception, and t’was great ...

Paul started writing with Elvis Costello in 87' and did some work on his album Flowers in the Dirt & EC's Spike!...
Paul played his 4001 in this "My Brave Face" session with Costello (15:15 timestamp): https://youtu.be/J0PmzS6AUWo?si=syenJMe5ITJNZ_4o&t=915

There was a time when I loved going way up the fingerboard, but these days I haven't done too much of that.

I still do. In my surf band I have a lead section that starts on the high D. I get above the 12th fret on a couple of other tunes.
