I bought a 1962 425 a few years ago and it's the coolest little guitar. Mine is pretty beat so I intended to refinish it in black but never had the heart to remove the original fireglo. The sound is very unique and after playing the intro to I Want To Hold Your Hand through a Vox AC30, I'm convinced ...

Alex, the 425 I own is very light and has a unique tone like nothing else. There was a burgundy one on ebay a week ago that didn't make reserve, if I remember right. If you see another burgundy one I'd jump on it.

Aged magnets? I've heard that but I really don't know.
Graham, you're exactly right. Lots of different guitars sound great. I remember the hotly debated topic as to which guitar was used for recording Day Tripper. I achieved the exact tone with a Jazzmaster through a Gibson amp.

Rickenbacker; (just to keep the thread going).
I think you're dead on, Murali about vintage instruments having an organic mystique to them. You can almost sense all the chords and songs that have been played on them. I think old guitars sound different due to the aged magnets on the PUs and aged ...

Murali, I agree with you that the Vs and Cs can capture the look but not the sound. The arguement over whether scatterwounds are supposed to sound like old toasters today or old toasters when new is an interesting question. I think they are designed to sound like old ones today because people want ...

J.C., I had a 1994 381v69 Turquoise!!! that sounded just like you describe. Very hot and darker than scatterwounds. I wish I still had it. It could play anything from jazz to jangle.

Having owned several vintage as well as newer Ricks I have noticed differences in each. To my ear the HiGains are naturally pretty hot and scatterwounds are very bright. Vintage toasters I've heard are both, very hot yet bright and chimey. This is especially true of my 1962 425 and 1967 365. The ...

John, While we're on the topic, I just bought a 1959 Ric 450 w/ neck thru and single trussrod. The neck has some relief on the treble side and none on the bass side. How can I adjust that out? Also, the neck seems to be pulling up from string tension. Can this be corrected? Thanks, Brian

I agree with the assessment that the 330 sound more woody than the 360. I think they have more volume for the sound to resonate in the body.

Thanks Jeff. I'll try your way. I read something about a date of Sept. 1984? when the new style truss rod was utilized, so mine is definately the old type.

Well, we seem to have a difference of opinion. I did mine with tension on the neck. Which is right; tighten w/ or w/o string tension?

I have a 1962 425 with a slight relief in the neck even with the trussrods fully tightened. Are they replaceable on older models the same as newer ones? How can I fix mine without breaking the trussrods?
