I found the best way to get a decent gold scratch plate is to spray the underside of a bit of 3mm Perspex or similar. I did use some gold sticky vinyl sheet at one stage but the shade wasn't right.
Bigsby - shouldn't really effect the tone, but there <might> be some issues with tuning at the nut ...

Re: Frank Zappa's 360/12 up for auction
The 360/12 went for $16k USD. His '80s custom-built not-Str*t (the butterscotch one) went for $70k.
Big numbers.

Re: Frank Zappa's 360/12 up for auction
Totally agree, there should be far more 'high-brow' recognition of his work. All kinds of 2nd and 3rd rate modern composers get more exposure on BBC Radio 3 here in the UK. Ensemble Moderne played some of his stuff at a Prom back in '97, but apart from that, the most he gets is a name check. Grr ...

Re: 330 neck gap
A tricky one to answer without examining the guitar in person. The most crucial aspect of the neck/body join is how the neck connects to the pocket - i.e. between the neck end and the underside of the body 'wings'. The back is essentially a cap and not primarily part of the neck join, although it ...

Frank Zappa's 360/12 up for auction
That's right - FZ's 1966 360/12 FG is up for auction (along with the sundry other guitars, recording/audio equipment and the sundry contents of his house, the latter being snapped up by Lady Gaga).
I never had FZ down as a Ric man, but you live and learn.
Guide of $3-5k USD. Sounds like a bargain ...

Re: 330/12 Walnut
Apologies in the delay - our first child was born Thursday morning, so have been on ground crew duty. :D
Attached is a photo of the modifies headstock - I went with silver to pick out the logo, a la the 75th Anniv. Cherry model (one of which I see is on eBay for £2000ish, btw).

Re: 330/12 Walnut
That's a nice looking axe. I think I may have to put an order in on the cookers... I'm also going to spry the trc. More to follow!

Re: 330/12 Walnut
I'm really keen on the cooker knobs but they don't do a fifth mini cooker. Any ideas? I've considered the vintage knobs (I've put those on my 650C) but think the cookers would really put the crown topper on it.

Re: 330/12 Walnut
One week in - no issues to report other than I'm in love with this guitar.
I decided to make a gold scratch-plate a la the 75th Anniversary cherry/gold 330 model from 2006. I think it looks rather spiffy. I've also got some Toasters on their way. :D
Not sure what to do about the truss rod cover ...

Re: 330/12 Walnut
Lol, well I guess I can look at my 4003 and 650 if I want to admire a Ric paintjob (both very different examples of Fireglo, btw - 650 definitely has more orange in the burst. Love them both though)

330/12 Walnut
Took delivery this afternoon of my 330/12 Walnut. This was bought from a BIG NAME UK outlet as a b-stock guitar at a seriously knocked down price. In short, a gamble. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Re: 650C FG - HB-1 series/parallel mod
Hmm, been playing around in more detail and I have a few issuses/observations.
Volume - no volume 0-2, very subtle volume increase 3-7, hot/dramatic increase 8-10
Tone - dramatic sweep 0-3, very subtle change 4-10
Any ideas why this might be happen would be greatly appreciated - all wiring has ...

Re: 650C FG - HB-1 series/parallel mod
Well, the mod is now complete. I had to make some changes as control area is on the wee side on a 650 - no room for a rotary switch I'm afraid.
What I ended up with was fairly conventional in the end - parallel wired HB-1s, A500k CTS pots for volume and treble, a 1nf cap wired in series with a 130k ...

Re: 4005
And then, Rickenbacker is actually a TINY company, only something like 60 people work there. So, adding a reissue model that's only going to sell a few (or even a few hundred) will cut into the "bread and butter" model production.
