Re: Greetings from Oregon

Greetings from another Greg from Oregon. 70's 4001's are my thing but if Ric ever makes a new walnut 4004 I'd probably pull the trigger.

Greg, from Salem! Born, raised in Salem and currently work there. I recently moved to Dallas.

Are you in a band which plays locally?

Cool! and nice Snowglo ...

Re: 4001 - Crack Neck Repair

A crack/repair that big in the neck is usually a deal breaker for most people. Early to mid 70's 4001's are special basses to me and getting harder to find good deals on. Do you have other pictures of the bass? If it is in nice shape with a decent case, I would offer $1200 to $1400. Good luck.

Re: 4001 - Crack Neck Repair

Use the crack in the neck to get the price way down and buy it. Especially if the bass in in great condition otherwise. I have a 74 4001 with the same type of neck crack repair and have never had a problem with it. Very stable and one of my favorite basses. Good luck.

Re: 4001 v 4003

Get it! My 75 4001 is the best Ric bass I've ever played. Also once you properly adjust the truss rods they tend to be stable for a long time.

Re: Some Thieving *******...

Sorry to hear that. Someone stole my 74 4001(NH5199) back in the early 90's and I still hold out hope I am going to find it one day. Hope they catch the thief and you get your bass back :!:

Had fun with the tapewounds but missed the brightness and clank of rounds. Trying out a set of DR nickel lowriders now. I am liking them!

Re: 1975 4001 Rick Truss Rod Problem

Looks exactly like my 75 4001 did. I was able to use a small 1/4" wrench to loosen the nut. You may have to pry up on the rod a bit to create some clearance - be sure to clamp the neck and fretboard near the nut first. I then pulled the rods out and straightened the tips.
