Just got a new 4003. Action seems a bit high and the string gauge seems huge, is this normal?
Especially the E looks like a cable!
Measuring the neck with a straight edge I can see a small amount of relief.
What gauge should be on here? Any advice on going to flat wounds? I have the McCartney ...

Cannot believe I just did that! Just ordered a new 4003 Fireglo.
Big McCartney/Beatles fan and cannot afford the exact reissue and I love the look of the 4003 binding.
Planning on going to flat wounds. What gauge and brand will be safe/best and not require a neck adjust?

New to Rickenbacker's basses. Looking to get the Fireglo McCartney vibe and wondering if the 4003 has advantages structurally over the reissue 4001 models? I for sure want to be under 2k, so I don't even think the reissue is an option right?
