Don't Kill The Whale cover

Just came across this on Youtube when I was looking for something else. He's not using a Rickenbacker, but it is a Yes song and he does have a rather mighty sounding tone...

Re: Removing the cap

I made a little clip to illustrate the difference... Were you using only the bridge P/U for those recordings? Sounds like there's an decent amount of low end even in your 'before' recording so I thought maybe you were running both P/U's. On my 2007 4003 it sounds like every bit of conceivable bass ...

Re: Is 2 Volume and 2 Tone the 'best' way to go?

I appreciate everyone's input regarding my question, and based on the sample of answers it's pretty obvious that the stock configuration is also the most favored one.... but I'm still not sold on it.

I've played two unmodified 4003's this week and both suffer from the 'tone bleed-thru' I mentioned ...

I agree with you about the volume, it's always full on for me. So your preferred setting is both pickups in a 50/50 blend? I like that setting a lot but I do like to go to a single pickup for a different kind of sound too.

Re: Is 2 Volume and 2 Tone the 'best' way to go?

That is probably only true for the 4001 wiring w/o cap, otherwise (with cap) the circuit of the PUs are completely separated and act totally individual.
If it were wired in the stock configuration this would never be a problem!
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. When I was talking about the tone control ...

Re: Is 2 Volume and 2 Tone the 'best' way to go?

Thanks for the opinions guys, I appreciate it.

I've had other peoples "creations" and I have to say that I like the original factory setup best.

My ONLY wish is that instead of a toggle switch to flip between the pickups, there was a blend knob so you could dial in a mix of the pickups.
Ok ...

Is 2 Volume and 2 Tone the 'best' way to go?

I know a lot of people like don't like to alter their Rics from the stock condition they were in when they left the factory, and while I appreciate that viewpoint, I acquired a 4001 earlier this year that's already been through the chop shop so keeping things stock is no longer an option.

I got to ...

Apologies for resurrecting an old topic, but I've been searching for single string suppliers in the hopes of putting together a 45-55-75-105 set for my 4001 that's more economical than a Ric set, since to my knowledge no one else makes such a set.

I've had JustStrings.com and several other ...

Why wasn't Steve Howe on 90125 & Big Generator?

I think I'm a reasonably big Yes fan, but not to the point where I research for information about individual members. That being said, why wasn't Steve Howe part of 90125 & Big Generator? Were there personal issues between certain members, or did he have other obligations, or what? I don't think any ...

Thanks for the info. I thought it was still a production model since it's pictured on their website.

I know 4003 5-strings aren't being made anymore, but I'm confused as to why you'd convert a 4004 from a 4 to a 5 when you could buy a 4004Cii/5 ? I know there's a backlog of orders and they may not be producing any at this moment, but it's still a production model, isn't it?

Or do you mean the ...

That's a better way to put it - the Ric has less of a taper from the bridge to the nut. I think I like that about it. Since I'm not the most precise player there's less of a chance of me accidently touching a string I don't want to since it's less crowded down by the nut.

I was mostly curious ...

String spacing on 4-strings, S/5s, and 4-to-5s

Hi all, long time lurker and first time poster. A little background and then my question. I've played bass for a number of years but never a Ric. I met someone locally a few months ago through another forum who just by chance also happened to have an old 4001 and he let me borrow it. It's far from ...
