Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Right on! Glad you got the tuners replaced on the 1993+. I had a couple of conversations in the past with JH that he probably didn’t appreciate me calling out the company on the authenticity of some of the details on my 325c58 shortly afterI received it in 2002. I opened it up and noticed that the ...

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Thanks,I wish you the best with your guitars. The new tuners are great and the guitar is a joy to play and stays in tune! It took a bit of effort but I did manage to get a new set for my RM 1993+. The ones on my 360/12c63 are OK save for the "small shaft" ones near the top of the headstoc...

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear it worked out well. I still have to send in my warrantee cards, etc. and hope that Rickenbacker engages with me the way they engaged with you.

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Yes, it’s hard to describe exactly what’s wrong but it was either too hard to turn the tuner, or it would be completely loose and nothing I did would work. Since you are in the U.K. It might take some investigating as to who to turn to for warranty issues, but I’m fortunate being in the US. Good lu...

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Let me know how the replacement tuners work for you. Schaller used to be a quality driven outfit, but since it was sold in 2006 things have definitely changed - especially in relation to the vintage tuners. We have found another "Kluson" style vendor as of about 2 months ago and we feel t...

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

It sounds like you have the similar problems with the tuners that we’re driving me crazy. My tuners had a ton of slack and would take forever to bite to enable the string to tighten. But right when it would almost be up to the right pitch, it would suddenly lose its grip and the string would drop o...

Re: Rickenbacker 1993Plus Replacement Tuners

Were they an improvement? As a related question, I have just received a 1993+ and the tuners hold the strings in tune fine, but they have this quasi locking feature where they can be detuned smoothly, so if the string is sharp, tuning down feels like the grip of the tuner is broken and then you have...

Re: Were Toaster Neck Pickups on 60s Basses Long or Short Po

...the Lollar horseshoe. But that horseshoe is giving me a lot of issues with the strings hitting the bobbin when it's installed. How tall is the bobbin on it, and, what's the clearance from the top of the poles (screw tops) to the underside of the shoes? The strings touch the screws and to adjust ...

Re: Were Toaster Neck Pickups on 60s Basses Long or Short Po

As an epilogue, I wanted to go with my long pole piece toaster (from a 67), but the leads on it are not long enough to run from the neck, so it had to be the short pole piece one as only it had the long enough leads. I have recorded a factory stock demo that I hope to A/B to the bass with the old to...

Re: Rickenbacker 480 on Goodwill Auctions

It took three runs for that 480 finally to be paid for. The last time the price was about where it should have been ~$1800; not the ludicrous $3000 the first time or the $2600 the second time. I can see why the buyers in the first two auctions didn't bother to pay.

Re: Question

Thing is, it’s only our opinion. Others may disagree. It all depends what you’re after. Of course I like the look of the 1/2" better; but I have to believe that much of the thinking behind why Rickenbacker changed the location to 1'' is to address stability issues suffered by 60s basses. There...

Re: Question

I think the 1/2 inch toaster is the most important part of the classic Rick sound, for me. Ditto! Same with right up against the end of the neck. I wish you guys felt otherwise. That is a very hardcore mod and hard for me to swallow. Although I do remember turning the screws into the body to set a ...

Re: Were Toaster Neck Pickups on 60s Basses Long or Short Po

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the difference in sound between a short and long pole toaster? Do the longer poles provide a stronger magnetic field and more output? In RIC lore, the short pole magnet pickups are desirable because they are rarer. Thanks Scott. I will try to get the long poles into ...

Re: Question

And one has to go to the "dark web" for a plexi truss rod cover! There ya go No affiliation, just a heads-up. I'd learn how to work plexi before I paid that price! Plus there is no guarantee of matching fit. I grabbed my ankles instead for the price of the Lollar as a proper horseshoe is ...

Re: Question

...a 60s toaster from the parts box. Cue the sound of me dying of envy (*sigh*) Just got lucky there. I used to watch eBay and I think there was a 360/5 new style poorly described, mislabeled or the like. I got it and the neck had a divot and crack in it. So I took the parts (or some of them) and c...
