Re: Schaller to Kluson conversion for a 2008 330?

Everything should be covered by the Kluson Except for the ring impession left by the Schaller bushing washer. Not a big deal but if you have a black (Jetglo) Rick it will probably show and may bother you. Yes, the conversion bushings are needed (I got some from Stew Mac)- It's nice that the those t...

Re: Vintage tuner prep - 07' 360 JG

Just as an update: The vintage tuners are holding fantastic. They were purchased from The Ric Page and appears to be Gotoh. They are what come on the newer late model Rics with Vintage treatment. They say "DELUX" on the back of case and underneath case hidden after install is embossed &qu...

330k vs. 250k/500k pots

I'm gonna build up a vintage mono wiring harness for my newer 4003 and I know back in the day it was the 250k on the volumes and 500k on the tones...but I noticed Ric uses the 330k's all the way around on the 4001c64...so just curious what you guys thought of the 330k.

Notched out tailpiece.

This might be a dumb question but I can't find the answer...what was the notch/cut out on the older basses tailpiece for?

How do you know what they would sell for that it is affordable for you (if you can't afford an existing one?) :?
I guess I was just thinking it would be around the price of a 4001C64 and not $6,000...I guess I was wrong

Re: 4005 back in production!

I understand the cost to resurrect the 4005 but today they make 3D scanners that would make easy work to getting the specs to program a CNC. The neck could be a 4001C64 but with non-reverse headstock and change the heel to the 330/360 style to fit the new 4005 body...so the neck is done...your time...

Re: Will 4001C64 keywinds fit 4001V63 ?

I just improvised...I stripped the chrome off the schallers and left just the nickel and lathed the bushing down a bit to make it thinner. It's not quite as small as the c64 but it looks a lot better.

Re: 4005 back in production!

Resurrecting the 4005 would require reverse engineering to program the CNC machines. Not cost efficient for a very limited appeal bass. At this point in time, a new 4005 would likely retail for $6000 (or there abouts), based on JH's comment back in the '90s that they would be in the neighborhood of...

Re: Will 4001C64 keywinds fit 4001V63 ?

Joe, the Schaller made standard bushing has a larger diameter, therefore the hole is slightly larger in the V63 headstock. The Gotoh made Kluson replica tuners as used on the C64 basses will have the smaller vintage size diameter bushing. You will have to modify the larger holes to fit the C64 size...

Will 4001C64 keywinds fit 4001V63 ?

I'm sure this has been covered before but I just can't find it...but is the bushing diameter the same on both headstocks? Or would I have to drill larger or dowel it and re drill smaller?

Thanks Joe

Yes, and Graham has no aversion to sharing photos of what he has. He helped fill in a few blanks in the book, too! :D
And what a great book it is....I'm always flipping through it.
