Re: My Highly-Modified 360W

Here's a video of me playing this guitar tonight:

I was reading a tune by Matana Roberts called "Turning the Mark," from The City Was Yellow.

Re: My Highly-Modified 360W

This is all really interesting continued discussion of the gloss finish on my guitar above, and filling walnut in general.

I have to admit that the previous oil finish was really great, but I had to make this change for the longevity and comfort of my instrument. I live pretty close to the San ...

Guess I don't rightly know. I've never seen one in the flesh.

Re: My Highly-Modified 360W

Walnut has a wide open grain that is much harder to fill for spraying clearcoat onto.

... and this is probably why they didn't do it from the factory. However, I'll never understand why Ric ships maple fretboard instruments with only oil finishes. More than anything, the instrument above is much ...

My Highly-Modified 360W

Hello!

I just want to share some info about my 360w, which has been modified in several ways which I'm very pleased about.

This instrument was produced in February of 2014, and I bought it that summer. It had some fit and finish issues which I have addressed in other posts on this forum. I ...

Re: Mastery bridge for lefty?

I enjoy the mastery bridge very much on my 360.

For a lefty, it won't be necessary to flip the saddles. Just orient it with the adjustment hexes away from the neck, and intonate each saddle set as needed.

Re: Maple Fretboard Finish Issue and Options

Thanks for the responses. It's important to note that the finish which is gumming up is a lacquer which I elected to put on the fretboard at the time I had the shop refret the guitar. It's not a case of a hard finish applied by Ric gumming up. In fact, this instrument never had a hard gloss finish ...

Maple Fretboard Finish Issue and Options

Good afternoon.

I've been playing a 360W for about three years. When I first acquired the instrument, it had some serious issues with mis-seated frets, and the back of the neck wasn't fine-sanded consistently. While it was still under warranty I sent it back to Ric and they re-did the neck; a new ...

Re: Gryphon Stringed Instruments?

I can second SF Guitarworks on 16th and Potrero. They re-fretted my 360w, and I love it.

Re: 360W Neck Fit nad Finish

I want to take a few moments and provide a follow up on my 360w.

Ric authorized a warranty repair on the instrument at the beginning of the year. They refretted the instrument and refinished the back of the neck. If plays great now, and the difference is huge.

They did the work without removing ...

Re: 360W Neck Fit nad Finish

Sorry, that was supposed to say refret! My screen is cracked.

I do love the instrument, but I have crazy high standards for playability. Sfguitarworks has spoiled me!

I would love a 21 fret 360, but would probably feel compelled to pull the frets on one of those, too.

Re: 360W Neck Fit and Finish

After much consideration, I've decided to save up and do a full regret on my 360w. It's really looking to be the only way to get consistent fret crowns all across the neck, without having to settle for teeny tiny itty bitty frets on a new instrument. I'll also have the beads of the crowns lay across ...

Re: 360W Neck Fit nad Finish

That is excellent advise for any guitar one buys, regardless of make or cost, excepting very inexpensive instruments. Virtually all quality guitars can benefit from the extra attention required to fine tune it to ones specific needs or desires, something that is very time consuming and added ...

Re: 360W Neck Fit nad Finish

Some more. Sorry about the photo spam, but I want to document correctly.

You can quite clearly see the flattened fret edges where they weren't crowned completely toward the treble side of the neck. As if the pressure was let off the bit as pushing toward across the neck.

Harder to see are the ...
