"Hot Toasters" vs Scatterwounds
I've had some time to compare the pre-scatterwound "hot" toasters from the 90's to the new scatterwound toasters on contemporary Ricks. I had a '98 660/12 to compare with a '15 1993+; and, a '96 325V63 to compare with a '15 350V63. I've compared the guitars on my AC-15 and Fender Mustang a...

Re: 1993Plus!!!
Putting all the hyperbole aside, the 1993+ IS the best 12 string RIC has ever produced. I've owned 4 Rickenbacker 12's and played dozens more. This thing blows them all away. Plug it in, don't plug it in... doesn't matter. It sings like an angel. I've had mine for a month now and I continue to marve...

Re: 1993Plus!!!
Yeah, Joelle, I'm surprised myself. I've had the 660/12 since buying it new 17 years ago. Frankly I prefer semi-hollow Ricks to the solid bodies, but I just couldn't play the 12's with the narrow neck. That's why I jumped on the 660/12 when they came out with it. (I was in a multi-year no guitar pha...

Re: Rickenbacker 660/12 Pickup Question
I also have the hot toasters in my '96 325V63, and I put TI flats (12's) on it, too. I love the sound of that little guitar. To my ear, it gets very good Lennon-like early Beatles tones. But, it can do a lot more with the higher output - as long as I stay at or below the 9th fret! BTW, I'll probably...

Re: Rickenbacker 660/12 Pickup Question
Some people like those hot toasters, so you shouldn't have a lot of trouble selling them if you switch to scatterwounds. I have the '98 660/12 with hot toasters, and a new 1993+ with scatterwounds. Yes they sound different, but they both sound like Rickenbacker 12 string guitars. It's like two sligh...

Re: Rickenbacker 660/12 Pickup Question
I have an early, non-TP, 660/12 from 1998. It has a birdseye maple body and "hot" toasters. It came with a vintage case (I called RIC to verify), but I think the dealer switched out the case on me to make a little extra $$. I got it with a standard case. He was dropped as a Rick dealer a y...

Re: 1993Plus!!!
I've had my 1993+ for a week now and absolutely love it. I didn't think I'd ever consider selling my '98 660/12, which I bought new. Now it's likely. The 1993+ is a game changer for me. While I was on the phone with Chris at PoTR paying for the guitar, he got a shipment of TI flats in, so he set min...

Re: 1993Plus!!!
I just heard today from an anonymous inside source that they just began production of this model, so it should be available much sooner. Can't confirm this, but I certainly hope it's true!

325V63 in MapleGlo?
There is a '96 325V63 in MapleGlo on eBay. It was always my understanding that the model only came in JetGlo. I have RIC catalogs from the 90's that say exactly that. Has anyone ever seen another one in MG? I just want to know if it's factory original, because it's tempting me.

Re: 1993Plus!!!
I love the description of the new model on the pricelist, "Like a 330 but with..." and goes on to list 5 differences, not even mentioning the f-hole! I think they could get closer with a 660. "Like a 660 but with bound, semi-hollow body, white pickguard, 6 saddle bridge and an additio...

Re: Changes in toasters?
Thanks for the post, Richard. That put some clarity into the fog of my memory. It's good that there's enough variety in Rickenbackers to satisfy different tastes. I had a similar experience with the two 12's, 660 and CW, with the opposite result. I bonded with the 660/12 and have had it for 16 years...

Re: Changes in toasters?
Thanks for the replies. My technical prowess on guitars is limited to setups - I don't understand or mess with the electronics. But, you did answer my question. All five of my toasters have Phillips head screws, so they're not scatterwounds. The mounts are different on the two guitars, but I guess t...

Changes in toasters?
I have a '96 325V63 and a '98 660/12. If my memory serves me correctly, at some point around 2000, RIC changed the toasters on the 660's to scatterwounds with less output. I purchased a pair of 360CW's about that time and I THINK I remember that they were the first Ricks to come out with the scatter...
