Re: NBD
Maybe because the front is largely covered by pick guard, pickups, and the player's arm? I dunno. Maybe it's a matter of how the pieces get cut out.

Re: NBD
Okay took some masurements, and got some surprises. Looking at the schematics, I figure that, with the volume control all the way down and a single pickup selected, I'll be measuring just the resistance of the volume potentiometer. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. The 4003W measures 161.9Koh...

Re: NBD
Has anybody besides me noticed that a guitar shipping box, with its relative proportions of the thickness to the width to the height would remind someone of the Tycho Magnetic Anomaly in Arthur C. Clarke's novel, "2001, A Space Odyssey"? A bass shipping box is probably closer to the corre...

Re: NBD
Today I took my old stock 4001 (well, mostly stock) to the studio along with the new 4003W. As I suspected, the 4003W has notably higher output. I think it's the pickups, but I suppose it could be the strings. If it is the pickups, are they wound hotter, or have the magnets lost strength on the old ...

Re: NBD
I don't think the proportions are quite right (though they might be; I haven't measured). The Monolith was 1:4:9 (the squares of the first three integers) in our three dimensions, extending into higher dimensions invisible to us. So, if the box were, say, 4" thick, it would need to be 16" ...

Re: NBD
Took it to rehearsal this afternoon. Notes. Complete consensus: it's beautiful. It sounds great. It plays like buttah. Even tuned to E♭, there was very little fret buzz. Tons of low end, brilliant highs. In short, the exact kind of wide range, hi fidelity sound I expect from a Ric. I didn't mention ...

Re: 4004cii Strings
I didn't care for flat wounds on my Cii. I switched to half rounds, and have been quite pleased. I can't tell you what kind they are. They came on another bass, apparently cost quite a bit, and have purple silk on the ends.

All right, you guys know what they look like, anyway, right? http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/anzyk/4003Wfront_zpsbcxitq0h.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/anzyk/4003Wreverse_zpsod4x0hny.jpg First impressions. The wood grain on the back is beautiful. The front, less so, I'm sorry to ...

Re: NBD
You're probably right, but i just don't have your flair for the dramatic. :( I'll have to settle for suspense! What was in the box, you might ask? A bass case! A Rickenbacker bass case! http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/anzyk/4003Wcase_zps7c5jwxec.jpg It's the plastic case. I'd prefer Tolex ove...

Re: First Ric 4003SW
Beautiful. I hate to say it, but it looks better than my 4003W. Nicer grain on the front.

Not good enough for you? Okay, how about this? http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k125/anzyk/4003Wboxlid_zpsdsronh2c.jpg...

Re: NBD
I wasn't sure I could afford it, either. The original plan was to sell my transgreen 4004Cii, but the members of one of my bands insisted I keep it and play it as my main bass in that band. That band actually makes some money, so I gave in and kept it. Perhaps fortunately, it took a year and a half ...

Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Ah yes, brass nuts.. 8) ...had a few of those on my basses over the years. My reason in asking about the neck pickup install was curiosity about whether there was already a factory rout done. My 4000 doesn't have one. I used a set of the SD Rick pickups in a pawnshop 4002 for 10 years, and concur abo...
