Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
My impression is that most audio taper pots these days are not really audio taper. Instead, they're dual linear, which actually approximates audio taper pretty well. I generally have my volume and tone controls on full, and change the volume and tone by changing the way I play, but there are excepti...

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
Are they also true audio taper, or the approximation that is more or less standard in the industry these days? Again, I don't know that I'd be able to tell the difference, and I don't use my controls all that often, anyway.

Re: Thumb rest for new 4003s?
I was thinking you were talking about the plexi one that I think Jeff had on one of his basses. I think those can be found at Pickguardian... He is thinking of the ZM rest but the one I got from Pickguardian just looks right for a Rick bass. :D The ZM mounts using the existing holes. Where would yo...

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
Seems to me that most of the difference would be in the higher resistance of the pots, and not in how closely they adhere to a spec. Sure, a 500K pot with a 20% tolerance might be as low as 400K, and that's not all that different from 330K, but is that the spec we're talking about? Or is it a proper...

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
Agreed that stock pots would be unlikely to meet those specs, but how many people would be able to hear the difference? I don't know whether or not I could.

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
500K pots make sense for humbucking pickups. A push-pull switch to tap the remaining humbucking pickup would also be nice. What size cap would work better than the .047 that comes stock?

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
Played a show last night, and the bass sounded much better. Soloing the bridge pickup was useful, used it in a couple of songs, but it was not as loud as the neck pickup or both in parallel, so I need to find a way to adjust the balance. Not a lot of adjustment for pickup height on these basses, but...

Re: My mother's 1966 4005 O.S. - it lives!
Great family stories, great old instrument. But what does a 4005 sound like? Is the bridge pickup even useful that close to the bridge? My understanding is that the fifth knob is a blend knob, but I don't understand how it works. I've looked at the circuitry, and it didn't make sense to me as a blen...

Re: Midnight blue vs. Snowglo
Andy, the Snowglo came out after the book was published, but there were White Rics before that. If I were to get a Snowglo 4003, I would get Pickguardian to make a pearlescent pickguard to match the fingerboard inlays. To me, that looks like ice, so you would have the beautiful(?) wintry combinatio...

Re: 4004Cii Bridge Pickup Tone
Tried it out at rehearsal this evening. Short answer? Hellz Yes! Sounded great. Amazing definition in the tone that just wasn't there before. Maybe too much. I'll play it for a week or two, maybe three, then switch out the pickups, putting the single coil in the neck position and vice versa, and see...

Buy both. Flip the Snowglo!AkaGoal wrote:The music shop owner doesn't know anything about basses so he doesn't know that this color is more expensive than a "standard" color
So...y'all guys think I should go with the snowglo?
