Re: Strings on new 4003's

Hi all,

One tool I find real useful is a dial caliper. I always use it to check string gages. You'd be surprised how far off some string sizes are compared to their advertised diameter. You don't need an expensive one and if you can't find one locally, you can find one on evilbay cheap. Micrometers ...

Re: 4003 Hipshot bridge .

Jeff, Perhaps we could just attach the diving belt to the tail strap post and let it hang...a very cool look....

Re: 4003 Hipshot bridge .

My 09 4001C64 had 1/8in. lift at the tail when I got it. I bought both alu. and brass Hip shots to try. I put the brass one on and never looked back. Long sustain and just a bit mellower
over all...very full sound but it is heavier, you will notice this right away when it's on the gtr. But this ...

Re: Bent neck?

Steve,

I hear you!

Chris said the 4001CS doesn't really sound the same as his original bass.

As far as playing, the one song that takes you into the head of Chris Squire is "Heart of the Sunrise" It's truly brilliant writing for the bass.

If you can play that one along with the recording, you've ...

Re: Bent neck?

To be honest, I wasn't very technical back then. I wanted the Bass that Chris Squire played. I had no idea what the models were. I couldn't find one that looked like that but I did find one that looked
like Mike Rutherfords bass. It had the triangle fret markers so in my later years I always ...

Re: Bent neck?

Ha!! I'm really aging myself here...

Well I was in a prog band at the time. We did a mixture of covers. We started in 76 and went through 79.

If I can find a pic of the old Rick I'll post it. I also had a nice P Bass.

Re: Bent neck?

Thanks for all the info guys.

I think I'll try one last thing before surgery. I normally use GHS Progressives 45-65-85-105. I think I'll try a lighter set and see what happens.
I bought the Bass used from a very well known Rick dealer and there was several problems that were not advertised. The ...

Re: Bent neck?

I pulled off the pick guard to take a look inside. That is an unusually large cavity for the pickup. Do they use this same cut for the 4003S models?
I have some hard Maple that I can cut to fit but there has to be slots cut for the truss rods to be removed and a slot must be cut for the pup poles to ...

Re: Bent neck?

Thanks for all the input. I'm a decent woodworker...I spent many years building flying replicas of WWI aircraft, Mostly just wood and canvas.

I'll have to find another bass before I attempt the fix as I play a few times a week.

I also wanted to note that the tension on the G side rod is almost nil ...

Bent neck?

Hi All,

In my continuing effort to make my 4001 play like I believe it can, I came across an interesting discovery. The nut end of the neck is higher than the heel end by about 5/32" when lying flat on a table.

The fretboard is perfectly straight and the Bass is tuned. Is this a natural thing that ...
