Re: Toaster, GFS, Ric HB - where's the twang?

Re: Toaster, GFS, Ric HB - where's the twang?

I keep the tone control wide open all the time. I don't need to cut treble! I don't think a capacitor change will effect anything if I am not backing off the tone control.

The Rickenbacker website has no pickups available and it has been that way for as long as I've been checking (4 months).

The ...

Re: Toaster, GFS, Ric HB - where's the twang?

The pots that were in it were 300k. I changed them to 500k to help bring out the treble.

Scatterwound toasters you say? Where can I buy them?

Toaster, GFS, Ric HB - where's the twang?

I have a Ric 620 with the high gain pickups. I'm looking for more twang! Output level is not a big issues nor is dealing with a bit of single coil hum.

I already replaced the pots with 500k pots. I'm getting more twang from my Tele and Strat - but I wanna play my Ric :!:

Any suggestions of what ...

Re: Removing Lacquer on Fretboard & Larger Frets

Well I certainly wouldn't want to remove the lacquer from the fretboard, but I did refret my 620 with slightly taller frets for easier string bending. It's basically like refretting a varnished maple neck Tele. You have to carefully score each side of each fret with an Xacto knife so that pulling ...

Ok, the refret is done. I'll give it about an 8.5 cosmetically speaking and a 9.5 functionally speaking. Man, those varnished fretboards are a pain not to mention the thin binding! I have a couple of small spots where the varnish chipped off (even though I scored each fret with an Xacto knife). The ...

I'm good with the 10" radius. Having refretted a few varnished maple necks I will not be touching the fretboard. I'll tape off the fretboard, score each side of the existing frets with an xacto knife then remove the frets. I use blunt nose nippers that I've filed flat faced to pull frets. I put a ...

Oh yeah, the smaller radius makes it even tougher to grab and stretch!

So, am I going to be shunned if I do the re-fret???

I'm not a huge fan of 24 fret necks, though I've not played one in 24 3/4 scale. I'd like to play one, and will when I get a chance, thanks!

Well, they are great for chording, but not so great for soloing. Even Tom Petty stuff (not too fast) is a chore!

620-6 neck radius, refret ?

Does anyone know what the radius is on a 2000 620 6 string? I'm considering a refret to medium frets. I've refretted over 30 guitars but never a Rickenbacker. I've done many with binding so that's not a big concern. I've also done several Fender maple (varnished) necks. I'm not concerned about re ...
