Re: Stock Strings on the new 4003?

Weird gauges...okay thanks, I appreciate it.

...is there a reason why they make the A/D strings so light?

Stock Strings on the new 4003?

Anybody know what the specs are for the factory strings on the new 4003 basses, e.g. brand and gauges?

Re: Hipshot Bridge.....w/ a mute

Hipshots do come with a great working mute that takes only a nanosecond to employ/deploy....your palm.
I even prefer the Carol Kaye method of putting a piece of masking tape over the strings at the bridge, which is also a lot easier to do with the hipshot..... :D

Palm muting is great, and ...

Hipshot Bridge.....w/ a mute

Why doesn't Hipshot make a replacement bridge with a muting system as an option? That's the only thing that's keeping me from buying one. I'd love to try it out, but unlike a lot of people, I actually use the mute. I cut the cushion much narrower so that it doesn't mess with intonation as much. Turn ...

HB1 4003

Apologies to all for what I'm sure is a hackneyed subject on here, but I wanted to get the latest opinions. I'm thinking of modding my new 4003 with HB1 pups. Can those who have tried this mod weigh in on this? I'm interested in trying to bring out a bit more midrange presence from the instrument ...

Re: How does changing the pots change the sound?

So, if I wanted to bring out more midrange presence in the neck pickup, I would lower the resistance value for the volume and tone pots?

How does changing the pots change the sound?

Hello,

I've read several threads on here in which these kinds of modifications are discussed in great technical detail (most of it over my head unfortunately). How would changing the Tone/Volume pots change the sound? What's the recommendation for a new 4003?

Thanks

Re: Pickguard for recent 4003

It is kind of subtle, but once seen,it cannot be unseen. The main thing is the old pg shape followed the curve of the lower body, and looked like it belonged there....the newer ones are ,shall we say, bulbous.
I applaud the company returning to form on that!

When did they change it back? I ...

Pickguard for recent 4003

I'm thinking I want to replace the original plain white pickguard on my 4003 with a white-pearloid. But I'm confused about which 'version' I should buy. I was looking at the AllParts site, and noticed that the two-piece pickguard is supposed to be for the 4003. I subsequently did some research on ...

Re: 4003 Mute Question

I bought this stuff this morning at our local "big box" home improvement store - will give it a try. The felt strip is 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch thick with pressure sensitive adhesive, and comes in a roll which is 60 inches long. That should be enough material for every Ric owner who has ever used ...
