Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!
I wouldn’t mind seeing a factory fretless 4005.

Re: Dead pickup on 4001FL - seeking advice
Tom Brantley also did a neck pickup for me for a 4003. Good job, reasonably priced. I’d have no qualms about sending him a toaster, he does some far more esoteric pickups than that!

Re: Fret bubbling
My 2015 4003FG had the finish lifting from the frets, much worse than that, and with the intercession of the local dealer where I bought it, it went back to Ric for refinishing, so I guess they agreed that it wasn’t right. It still has some, if you look, but nowhere near what it had been.

Re: Forgive me Father for I have sinned
Tort is weird. I think it looks great on certain instruments, like certain Fenders and Kays. But I’ve never seen tort on a Ric that looked right to me. I’ve seen some implementations that looked better than others, but still nothing that looks good to me. (There’s an interesting parallel with auto ...

Re: Inherited 1968 Ric and need advice
Have you been trying to adjust the truss rods? Reason I ask is because Ric truss rods up to about ‘85 were unlike any other truss rods, and simply tightening them does not adjust them, and can cause damage to the neck. I would question whether the term “maxed out” should ever apply to Ric hairpin ...

Re: 78 vs 79 4001
I had a February 1978 4001 (until it was stolen in ’89), and it had raised letters on the TRC. I’m pretty sure my buddy’s ’76 also had a raised logo. I would think that a previous owner may have swapped covers on yours.

Or, if you don’t mind the upside-downness, get a righty fretless and switch the saddles and nut.

5D389CA0-15CA-48EA-87AE-05C21AC9A736.jpeg Hey folks, just got my first Rickenbacker this week. A 1983 4003 modified to be fretless and have only one pickup in the neck. I have a lot of the parts to move it back towards original. For now, I’m just paying it with a fresh set of strings and enjoying ...

Re: 4001 C64 tailpiece replacement?
The one item on your list that had already occurred to me is "drilling too deep and going through the body." Makes me queasy just typing the words.
Easily avoided, fortunately - you just sit your drill bit deep into the chuck so that only the right length of drill is protruding. If the drill bit ...

Re: Who gigs with a combo amp?
I'm very happy with my GK MB212-II. At 41 lbs and 500 watts, I lost almost 100 lbs and gained 150 watts over the Ampeg SVT-III/SVR215 I was using.

I mention just out of curiosity that I've seen water-based acrylic spray paints at the hardware store. Perhaps this would be a option if solvents are a concern?

Re: TR14 questions
Update:
I'm still looking for a schematic for this amp. Somebody must have it. I've exhausted all the resources I can think of, and others that were recommended to me.
I have managed to temporarily relocate the reverb tank to the inside of the chassis (and clears out all the extra wiring), but it ...
