I wouldn’t mind seeing a factory fretless 4005.

Tom Brantley also did a neck pickup for me for a 4003. Good job, reasonably priced. I’d have no qualms about sending him a toaster, he does some far more esoteric pickups than that!

My 2015 4003FG had the finish lifting from the frets, much worse than that, and with the intercession of the local dealer where I bought it, it went back to Ric for refinishing, so I guess they agreed that it wasn’t right. It still has some, if you look, but nowhere near what it had been.

Have you been trying to adjust the truss rods? Reason I ask is because Ric truss rods up to about ‘85 were unlike any other truss rods, and simply tightening them does not adjust them, and can cause damage to the neck. I'm very happy with my GK MB212-II. At 41 lbs and 500 watts, I lost almost 100 lbs and gained 150 watts over the Ampeg SVT-III/SVR215 I was using.

I mention just out of curiosity that I've seen water-based acrylic spray paints at the hardware store. Perhaps this would be a option if solvents are a concern?
