Re: Rickenbacker 430 .0047 cap bypass
Thanks Jeff & Dane. I have someone in my area ( S. Florida) who takes direction very well. What would happen if i had her bypass the larger orange .0047 µF cap as well?

Re: Rickenbacker 430 .0047 cap bypass
If you have the .0047 µF cap in line with the bridge pickup (it will be the smallest of the three caps in the harness, assuming there are three cap in it, the tone caps will the same physical size) just solder a piece of wire across that cap and it will be bypassed, very simple. After looking at th...

Rickenbacker 430 .0047 cap bypass
I have an issue with my RIC 430 bridge pickup sounding very thin. I had a similar issue with my 480 a while back and remember that there was a simple bypass that fixed the issue. Can someone either post or send a schematic showing the exact fix. My 430 has replacement hi gains and there is nothing w...

Re: 360/6 setup advice
<Snip>Just for information and comparison, what kind of string height/action do some of you use and if you don't mind, tell me how you measure. I'm used to measuring at the 17th fret ala Fender. For what it's worth, I tend not to measure string height. With the neck straight, I simply try to get th...

Re: 360/6 setup advice
It sounds to me like someone may have tinkered with this guitar prior. I can understand the neck being slightly bowed and the strings being old. I would be concerned about the nut for sure and also the fact that the store refuses to do any kind of setup on the guitar prior to purchase. If it's price...

Re: What about acoustic Rics?
Are all acoustic Rickenbacker discontinued? Did they sound ok? It´s a pity!! Unfortunately Rickenbacker discontinued the acoustic line quite some time ago. After that, Paul Wilczynski continued building them with the blessing of RIC using the remaining materials. I believe that he is no longer buil...

Re: String height on a 360 12 strings
Hello everybody, I have just joined the forum and I hope to learn lots of things here. I have two Ricks, one 6 strings 330 FG and a 360/12 Mapleglo. I would like to know the standard setting for the 12 strings, I mean , string height and how to measure it. I was told that on 12 strings the strings ...

Re: Chip Touch-Up
<snip>Steve - your May 1975 430 is not a high gloss finish. I don't think there are as many coats of clear conversion varnish on them as a high gloss RIC- so you may find you sand down to the wood quickly. Thanks Brian, I was thinking about the matte finish. I just want to remove the roughness. Wha...

Re: Chip Touch-Up
That video I posted earlier in the thread with Dan Erlewine talks about sandpaper grits for polishing, I believe; it's around the 2 minute mark. Thanks Sean. I watched the video again and know where to start. This should not be difficult as I am not concerned with the cosmetics. I just want all of ...

Re: Chip Touch-Up
<Snip>I'm not trying to make it look any better but there is a lot of roughness that I just want to make as smooth as possible. What I could use help with is what type and grit(s) of sandpaper or micro mesh should I use and in which order. Also should I use wet or dry. I do not know how course the ...

Re: Chip Touch-Up
Thanks again for all of the good advice. Now onto the flip side.....I have a RIC 430 which I purchased quite some time ago as a project. It plays great and has a lot of character. I'm not trying to make it look any better but there is a lot of roughness that I just want to make as smooth as possible...
