Re: Newly-restored 1976 Rickenbacker 4001

Sweet! Though I have to say, that transparent black in kind of interesting. I liked the color, but like I said the quality of the finish itself was shoddy. You can really see it on the top back of the headstock but it had other issues as well. And I figured if I was going to get it refinished anywa...

Re: Newly-restored 1976 Rickenbacker 4001

Also slight tangent... If I refinish a guitar in the registry, do I update it's entry to its new color?

Newly-restored 1976 Rickenbacker 4001

In 2019 I bought this 1976 4001 off Reverb. I got it for a really low price because it was in somewhat rough shape. Some of the problems it had (which are apparent in the upcoming photos) were as follows: The frets were so badly worn that it was hardly playable I have no idea what its original color...

Re: '76 4001 wiring problem

Good news; the tech I went to figured everything out. I picked the bass back up today and everything seems to be in working order. He concurred with you guys about the wiring being really sloppy. The things he ended up doing included: - Cleaned up sloppy wiring - Added two inter-pot ground wires - R...

Re: '76 4001 wiring problem

Also of note, there's a ton of wrong or flawed diagrams on the web, might as well go to the source. http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19507.pdf Yeah, I've seen that diagram before. Unfortunately, it might as well be Greek, for all the sense it makes to me. It may be moot anyway... quick update, toda...

'76 4001 wiring problem

I have a 1976 4001 that I need some help with. There's some kind of problem with the wiring that I'm having trouble tracking down; I know the pickups are connected because I can hear it through an amp when I tap on the pole pieces with a screwdriver, but the only other sound coming through the amp i...

Re: 4004 Replacement Tuners

I use Hipshot Ultralights on my 4004Cii. You will have to rheem the peg holes out to a larger size though. I use the ones with a cloverleaf key, and there is a drop-d version available also from Hipshot. Hipshot's website lists versions with 1/2" and 3/8" string posts; I'm assuming you ha...

4004 Replacement Tuners

I have a handful of 4004s from the 2010s and I love them all, but they also all have a bit of a problem; very slight neck dive. It doesn't bother me for short sessions but gets irritating the longer I play. Right now I have a counterweight attached to the strap that fixes the problem, but it makes t...

Re: So, no more 4004?

So I was trying to get a Gold Hipshot M4 Bass Xtender for my Fireglo 4004 and couldn't find one in stock anywhere, including Hipshot's own store. I shot them an email about it and just got the following response: Hi Patrick, Thanks for reaching out! The machines have been discontinued from Schaller....

A year later, anyone know if this is still the case? Folks on TB seem pretty convinced that the 4004 is gone for good.

New Old '76 4001, looking to restore

I've just received a a '76 4001 that's in decent condition but has seen some modification in its lifetime. I'm looking to have it restored to original (or at least period-correct) condition. To that end, I have a few questions: 1. At some point the bass was refinished in a sort of transparent black....

Re: Where to find gold nameplate screws?

I ended up using these screws from Stewmac: http://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Par ... ender.html

They don't look the same but they fit well enough.

Re: Where to find gold nameplate screws?

Sorry, I was tired. When I said "stripped", what I meant was that the heads were shredded up and the screwdriver couldn't turn them anymore.
