Re: Yes and Frampton to tour again.

The strangest billing I ever saw was in Tampa Stadium in '76 (solo album tour). First was the Posette Dart Band, then J. Geils, Charlie Daniels, and finally Yes...Ahh, the 70's .............. Yeah, no lie, Dave...one of the times I saw them (Relayer tour, Tucson, June of '75) it was Ace, then Johnn...

Re: ***Rutherford Doubleneck News!!!***

I much prefer the previous version, but both are just to wide to be practical for average sized people. I would use the factory layout with stacked knobs if I wanted to have the same control functions and split the upper and lower necks with ROS instead of the way the factory did it. Agreed, Dane.....

Re: ***Rutherford Doubleneck News!!!***

Look, Abba's in the RnRHoF, Captain Beefheart's not...is anyone really surprised by this? 'Halls Of Fame' are just another stupid (but wildly successful) idea for separating working folks from their hard-earned dollars, for capitalizing on their dreams. Take the kids to the Smithsonian, the Museum o...

Re: ***Rutherford Doubleneck News!!!***

The ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME CLOSES at 5:30???? Yeah, you're absolutely right about that, Steve...the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME should be open 'til 2 am, full of Camel cigarette smoke, with a two-drink minimum and an embarrassing hand stamp that won't wash off for days...and it should feature ex...

Re: YOU TUBE OF THE DAY--THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLEE

Hey, Peter! Thanks for this, man...I had never heard of these guys. Fantastic! And, not wanting to take anything away from Freddie's M's delivery, but I now view this song as 100% Country. In the original version, the lyrics always sounded incongruous to me, being sung as they were by an operatic te...

Re: YOU TUBE OF THE DAY--THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLEE

Indeed, Hank Johnson is not the sharpest tool hanging over the workbench. It is a fact, and not a particular obscure one, that islands do not 'tip over'. It is not, however, unreasonable to inquire how a fragile ecosystem like a coral reef might be affected by 8,000 'recreation loving' Marines and t...

'Cello (first 'rig' I played as a kid) Drums: Kit, Congas and Latin 'traps', everything in the 'marching band' section (four years of HS, section leader Senior year, and two years at ASU), all the symphonic percussion instruments (tympanist for the Pepperdine U. Symphony and Light Opera; percussioni...

Re: Weirdest punk/alternative band?

Great choice, Ashot! I have a good friend who plays in Gamelan Sekar Jaya, the San Francisco Balinese orchestra, who was the Residents' keyboard player. I couldn't agree more with you, they're a great band.

Re: Psychedelia — "back to the future" or "forward to the past"

Anyways, I hate hippies but definitely love their music. WT*? Mikko, are you sure you're not Russian? (I'm kidding, ok? K-I-D-D-I-N-G...) Balinese gamelan music is meant to be 'hypnotic', with part of the goal being to facilitate the dancers (and various members of the village 'audience') entering ...

Re: British vs American?

The U.S. used to be a British colony...some would say still is...but either way, we remain kind of joined at the hip, for better or worse... As far as the difference between American 'punk' and it's far more legitimate British precursor goes, one of my first brushes with 'the movement' here was when...
