Re: The Prodigal
I'm the guy that benefited from Paul's generosity. A few years ago I got caught up in the whole TB "if you don't play a fiver you ain't cool" attitude. I bought a new Lakland (also a TB flavor of the day) and shortly thereafter my wife had to change jobs. Something had to go as we adjusted...

Re: Best Amp for Ric bass?
Wow. No Eden votes. I've used an Eden WT-550B and now run an Eden WT-800C through D112XLTs and D210XST combinations. I go for a Dave Meros of Spocks Beard and a '80s Chris Squire clang out of 4003s. The midrange articulation from the 12s and deep bottom end of the XSTs really bring out the aggressiv...

Re: Damn... I'm missing a fret!
Chris did have a 21 fret MG 4001, if I remember correctly, he is pictured with it inside The Yes Album sleeve and may have used it on TYA while the RM 1999 was being repaired. In concert, for "Mind Drive" he plays the Moraudian, at least on that "Tsongas" video from 2003. I've g...

Re: Damn... I'm missing a fret!
Didn't he play that on his green Moradian (sp?) bass - that has 21 frets. What about stretching to it on your Rick? You're probably right. I was suprised to see all the basses he uses on that little YouTube video . How many frets does his Ric have? C64s only have 20. Yeah, I could change tuning, bu...

Damn... I'm missing a fret!
So I decided to take on Mind Drive off of Keys and I found the little solo in the beginning goes up to high E on the G string. Um... my 4003 only goes up to D#. Doh! I didn't realise Chris's Ric has 21 frets until now. Luckily my G&L L-2000 does, so I'm using it instead. And I thought I was pret...

Re: Bass pickup is too quiet
That's interesting. A month ago Wades got in a MG and I contemplated moving my JG deposite and getting it instead. I played it amped for a bit and found the neck pickup was half the volume of the bridge. Wade adjusted the pole pieces and even went so far as to take the pickguard off and remove the s...

Re: Got the '99 4003 Mapleglo
Enjoy!!
Wade at Wade's Guitar Shop in Milwaukee (on the fashonable East Side) did the nut, setup and the VTC mod.
I tell you folks I'm a huge Spocks beard fan. The DR Lowriders 105-45 nail Meros's sound. I run an Eden WT550 and D112XLTs and I can get gobs o' Ricky goodness.

What's up with www.rickenbaker.com?
I check the site everyday to see if my 4003 shipped to Wade's Guitar Shop. Haven't been able to get to the site for days now.
