Re: ? my 1972 4001 bridge pickup quit working
Nice, A large magnet slotted pole pick up! I love the growl on those!! Send it out and get it rewound! A guy like Tom Brantley can do it very reasonably for you. He's in North Carolina and on Facebook. He's fixed a few of mine. Very knowledgeable and his work is awesome! Sepp I think the workmanshi...

Re: My 1999 Ric is older than Squire and Macca's
Very nice! Looks like Fireglo (properly for an RM 1999) peeking through on the worn edge. I was wondering what that design was on your bass, but now that your name is posted, I have figured it out! :D Yes - I had it sprayed white when I got it; it's just oversprayed and I quite like it like that. A...

My 1999 Ric is older than Squire and Macca's
On reading Mr Boyer's rather nice book, I realised that my 1999 has an earlier serial number (DA07) than the two most famous vintage ones, which is kind of interesting. http://i66.tinypic.com/10gbvx3.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/vkkz7.jpg I'm wondering if there is any history to it? I bought it in '77...

Re: How to shield a 4003 bass?
The big treble pickup surround should be earthed with a trailing wire from the pickup cable, but the underside of the cavity isn't shielded. The neck pickup has a metal surround and its wire is a coax, so it should be OK. The control cavity could have conductive tape stuck around it, along with the ...

You've got a couple of options if it truly doesn't work:
1. Get it fixed.
2. Put in a replacement pickup (I have an SD in my '72 Ric) and get it fixed anyway!

Re: 4000 FB bass one-off
I have to say that I don't like it; the shifting of the big pickup assembly towards the bridge offbalances the aesthetics and makes the bare pickguard look even more stark than it does on a 4000.
Incidentally, what does a 3000 pickup sound like - I have one in a box of parts but have never heard it!

Re: My 77 4001 Has a Bit if Tail-Lift....Recommendations?
I've got a couple of Hipshot bridges and I think they work well; definitely better than the Badass which I used to have on a Ric (it's now on a Precision). As for tail-lift, you can get the Allparts one and just use the main block/tailpiece still with your original bridge/saddles part; I did that on...
