Re: Wish List - Rickenbacker bass Offerings and Features

But Roger had one of his old Ricks refurbished and I think it has Rick pickups on it. Picture in the book.

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!

Wasn't there a dealer in Haymarket or Gainseville area? I remember going into a nice shop there in the early 2010s.

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!

"The pickups are in the less than ideal space, and the pickguard looks awkward. . . ." Wow. Complaints already. Like, knock off with the negative waves, man. Some people have been clamoring for the return of this model. Probably not many, but let's allow them their opportunity to be satisf...

Re: '64' RM199 rebuild continued, detective work.... (seeking 64 jack plate).

Certainly never a standard. Lots of users made/bought custom pickguards, some nifty, some, well, abominations. Standard Rickenbacker pick guards are plastic. Most are white, some more translucent (kinda see through) white, some black, and some (like the signature models) are back painted clear acryl...

Re: Just got a new 4003 in Mapleglo

Not as a rule. Retailers sometimes order a special batch in special colors, clear coats, and checker binding. But the shedua/walnut center strip has returned, and the new tailpiece, and (I think) the solitary dual-action truss rod are standard now. :)

Re: HELLP! Rick Newbie 4003 Bass Questions

The two knobs when turned raise or lower the foam mute that's underneath the "teeth" just in front of the bridge saddles. Most folks don't use the mute and find the knobs are in the way of their plucking hand. The two-piece pick guard was a feature of the early 4003 basses from 1980 to app...

Re: Rick AzureGlo = Finish colour shift under lights?

Color, as most of us see it, is all about reflected light. All color wavelengths are in "white" light, and the colors we see are certain wavelengths of light that are reflected from certain surfaces. We can use filters to take out colors like red and green from "white" light and ...

Re: '83 4003 Truss Rod Spacer

Better to sand off finishes than to use a chemical stripper. Binding and position markers are plastic. Granted, this was 50 years ago, but I removed the finish from my old '72 with Zip Strip, and it ate into the binding and (gasp) the crushed-pearl position markers! When I realized that was happenin...

Re: RIC Wood Sourcing

Some of the first model 4000 basses were made with mahogany, but construction switched to maple and walnut as they were easier to work with. Check for more information in the book. :)

Re: 4001S or modded 4000?

It looks to be an original "4001S" - in the "set neck" days, the single-pickup 4000 and the 4001S had the same chassis. Everything was the same except for the routing for the "neck" pickup and the additional controls. It is possible that a chassis with the additional ro...

Re: 4003fl with shark fins

Can't tell you about value, but to me it looks like a custom fingerboard. The wood is not standard for the time period and the position markers look too bright. Still, once in a while, a factory experiment or employee special project escapes into the wild!

Thanks, folks. It's hard to believe it has been ten years since the first edition came out - six years since the second!
