Yep, what they all said.

The TRC lettering is screen-printed ink. It would come off with any technique or solvent you use to remove the paint.

Just buy a gold TRC next time one turns up on eBay and be done with it. Save your old TRC if you ever want to go back to original.

My recommendation would be to give your Janglebox some time. I play a 330/6 through one into a Fender Deluxe Reverb, and after some work I found the right balance between "Gain" and "Squeeze". It takes a bit of work, but it's worth it. I even run an overdrive in front of it and can get a nice bitey ...
