Re: Why so quiet around here?
Facebook is only part of the reason. If you follow eBay/Reverb, there are less and less interesting Ric basses up for sale. There were times when 4005's and 4002's were moving, 60s 4001's, Shadows, enameled board SPC's, 4000's, other conversation pieces. And Rickenbacker had more models, v63 and c64...

Bass is not Olympic 10-meter diving, you don't get bonus scores for difficulty.

Re: How do you point your knobs?
For many years I've played Fender P's with their dot-less knurled barrel knobs. My sign is the set screw hole, it's like a dot you can actually feel.

From the factory all the way up is white dot at 6 o'clock. Yes, pointing down. https://scontent.fsdv3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/289825918_5375790389171235_8200451467104307910_n.jpg?_nc_cat=108&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=a26aad&_nc_ohc=LJWq0LHDayQAX_Qe86F&_nc_ht=scontent.fsdv3-1.fna&oh=0...

Ernie Ball 2808 Group IV 40-60-70-95. Best flatwounds I know, in both feel and tone. And inexpensive at $35 - less than half of $76 TI Jazz Flats JF344.

Re: 1976 4001 without triangle fret markers. V63?
Looks to me like a replaced fretboard. Being a 1976 with the hairpin rods that nobody knew back then how to properly adjust, maybe someone cranked it Fender-style and popped the board. BTW I'm doing the exact same thing with a Hofner Verithin bass I'm in the process of restoring - the rosewood board...

Re: Original 1982 String Gauges?
I believe that most if not all owners of 40 year old basses have changed strings since then. For those who haven't: get a tetanus shot.

Re: Checkerboard Binding
How about pinstripe binding? RIC used to do pinstripe on Jetglo from time to time coupled with black guards, and I've always liked that look, even more than checkerboard.

What is the exact depth of the channels for pre-'85 hairpin truss rods?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Perhaps with all of the recent changes they might update the site The most recent entry in the Recent News page on the corporate website is from 2014. The 4003 pic is still a with a pre-hump guard — that's a pre-1998 bass — and the 4004 pic shows the 2003 pickup locations (and no mention that the m...

Re: New trussrod question
I can't see a reason not to. The rods have been standard compression type since 1985, and the skunk stripe isn't like a Fender guitar where it plugs the channel - in Rics it's just a center strip, 3 instead of 2, running the whole length of the body. Maybe with a single rod they didn't want it pushi...
