Re: 4001 Truss Rod Help

Just wanted to say thanks to all that contributed to this thread. I was able to follow these procedures to remove, recondition and reinstall my truss rods with no problems. Was able to adjust the relief on my neck so that it plays perfectly for me. Thanks again. Don Be sure to use the proper techni...

Re: ID from the experts

i would say late '70 to '72. tug bar and short headstock, small pickguard on the upper fotos at the top of the page. the pics that precede this post look like another rick as the two top pegs seem to line up, where as the one at the top of the page are slanted and has walnut wings ? one seems to be...

Re: Questions/Help Sought

Curious question - if a toaster is 6 pole and used in a bass, why can't you use the 6 pole lap steel coil? Poles too narrow on those (I know the 8 string ones are tiny)? The poles in a toaster are ALNICO magnets. The poles in a horseshoe pickup are just fillister head screws. You could use a 6 pole...

Re: Which cap???

No, not at all. Removing it expands the low end response. The overall tone of the bass remains intact, It just easier to get the bass to rumble. RIC officially removed the .0047 cap in about 1984. It reappeared around 2005 -06 with the pull pot. The normal mode for those basses is for the cap to be ...

Re: Questions/Help Sought

Hello all....... I just purchased a vintage lap steel with the intention of dropping its original, magnetized HS pickup into one of my V63 basses. (This lap steel dates back to the 50's) I have some questions regarding this: 1. Will it be/is it possible to fit the HS into the V63's re-pro surround?...

Re: Problems with neck...

Depending on the cause, there are a few things you can do. Cause 1: The wood at the body ends of the truss rods has compressed making the rods less effective or even ineffective. This is rare but happens. Rickenbacker truss rod ends (1984 and later) anchor directly into the wood under the fingerboar...

Wouldn't you know it? The bridge is cut off in this pic. :? Ged4002.jpg Awesome bass. I'd leave the Stars bridge on there. I was trying to track one down until Hipshot came out with theirs. I'm pretty certain Ged's had a Badass on it since every other Ric he owned had one. No. Geddy has a BAII on h...

Re: Pickup distance from string- why did they move it away?

Greetings. Early 4001s had very little distance from the body to the top of the fretboard. Everything (correct me if I'm wrong) since has had gradually increasing distance. This causes all of the pickups to be further away, and thus they lose the growly pickup overload. What was the purpose? Becaus...

Re: Pickup distance from string- why did they move it away?

The move from the older 1/2" spacing to the current 1" spacing happened mid-year 1975. The official word is it was done to improve the sound. The 1" position puts the neck pickup right under some strong harmonics (where the 24th fret would be). The basses from '75 have bigger neck pic...
