One of my all-time favorite electric 12 string records, XTC's 'English Settlement,' was recorded on an mid-70s Rick with hi-gain pickups. It's hard to imagine Rick 12 string goodness sounding much better than that.

I like the Curt Mangan set from Pick of the Ricks (aka Ricstrings.com) because they emulate the original RIC set. I do NOT recommend the D'addario 12 string set. It's awful, since it does not have wound G or wound A octave. And the G octave is an 8 when you want a 10. The TI Flats are great if you ...

Re: R vs Trapeze Tailpieces
I'm a Beatle fanatic - I've been one since the mid-70s. I've been wanting a Rickenbacker 12 string ever since - although I've been playing guitar seriously since that time I never owned one until this year. When I first noticed that George Harrison had two different Rick 12 strings I decided I liked...

Re: Source for Rickenbacker 95404 strings
Thanks very much! It looks like while the strings are $26.15, shipping costs to the Boston area are $31.60. I may have to hold off on the Rick strings for a while!Hotzenplotz wrote:Maybe here we go:

Source for Rickenbacker 95404 strings
Merry Christmas, everyone! Last night I was playing my gift to myself, a 2015 360/12c63, when I did something I don't think I've done in more than a decade - I broke a string! I broke the high G string just tuning it. The strings on the guitar are probably a bit old, but fortunately I had a single 1...

Leave a 2015 360/12c63 in the box 24 hours before opening?
Hi, folks. I just received a 2015 360/12c63 from a seller in Minnesota. He strongly suggests I leave the guitar in the shipping box for 24 hours before opening it. I've looked online and I've seen all kinds of opinions on this - leave it 24 or 12 hours, open it up right away, let it warm up for a co...

Re: Interesting Fret Question
Look here for a fix  http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=416874 Thanks! :) Unfortunately I'm thinking this guitar has a very light fretboard and if all the lacquer came off it would look almost like a maple fretboard, which might be fine for some people but for me, 360/1...

Re: Interesting Fret Question
Thanks again! I'm beginning to think the big issue here is the natural color of the fretboard wood under the varnish. I've seen pics of some Rickenbackers where it looks like the lacquer has spread away from the frets and you can see what appears to be bare wood, but the color is still the same or c...

Re: Interesting Fret Question
Thanks again. So do you think this would impact resale value of an otherwise excellent condition Rickenbacker?
Would you buy a guitar like this?

Re: Interesting Fret Question
Thanks for the reply. Is this an issue? Would it weaken the frets or lessen the value of the guitar?

Interesting Fret Question
Hi, folks. Could you please take a look at the fret in this picture and tell me what you think of the whiteness or grayness you see on either side of the fret? You may need to click on it to maximize it. The owner of the guitar says he's the original owner and it's never been refretted, that this is...

Re: Playing the Rick 12 String as a 6 String
And thanks, Chris and Jason, for bringing up the tension issue. I have no desire to compromise my 360/12 in any way so if that's a possibility with playing it as a 6 string even just for a little, I won't do it. I would have enjoyed playing some rock, blues or country on something that's not a Les P...

Re: Playing the Rick 12 String as a 6 String
One idea: you could just put on the octave/unison strings and enjoy it in "Nashville tuning" for a while. Thanks for the idea! Yes, Dave Gregory of XTC (I actually don't know if they're still broken up or if they're back together at this point) leaves his Jet Glo rounded 360/12 with hi ga...

Playing the Rick 12 String as a 6 String
Before I received my 360/12, I thought whenever I changed strings on it I would first string up the 6 original non-octave strings and then leave it like that for a while so I could play it as a 6 string, just so I could enjoy a different voice than my Gibsons and Fenders. But now I see the nut on th...
