Re: Restoring a '75 4001.
Thanks all, will be sure to use dowel rods and keep you updated. Also dropping Dane a PM about a wiring harness, as I don't really want to deal with the mess that's currently in there. I sadly don't have any machine shop tools like a drill press, so will have to make do with basic tools. If anyone i...

Re: Restoring a '75 4001.
Thanks Dirk and Dane, great info! I'm an amateur at this stuff, and even though I might cut a few corners due to lack of experience and a wide range of tools, I'm trying not to completely hack the job like previous owners have done. The headstock tuner holes are indeed drilled wider to fit Schallers...

Re: Restoring a '75 4001.
I've bought some 24" x 5" x 1/8" thick maple that will be cut to shape to fill the cavity routed for the BadAss bridge, ready for a Rick bridge to be placed on top (after pro refinishing). I should leave a small gap in the inlay for the ground wire to be threaded through and attach to...

Re: Restoring a '75 4001.
Yeah, looks like you're correct. So it was once a Rick/Fender/Gibson hybrid. Holy smokes!

Re: Restoring a '75 4001.
Ok looks like a great project. The easiest electronic fix would be just buy a modern harness replacement. Search for aceonbassworks1 on Ebay, I'm happy with the harness he made for me. Although your current wiring doesn't look that horrible to me. Now on to the badass repair, do you have a router a...

I've no idea, but it's possible. Lord knows what this poor bass has had to endure.jps wrote:Was there a Gibson 3-point bridge on this bass at one time?

Restoring a '75 4001.
I'm currently in the midst of thinking about what I need to do to bring my '75 Rickenbacker 4001 back to it's former glory. This bass plays and sounds great, but was previously butchered by the original owner, and restored in a half-assed way by the guy I bought it from. The short story is the origi...

Thanks Pete! No, not Jetglow - it's a white tuxedo 4001.

Would current production 4003 tuners fit a vintage 4001?
The '75 4001 I'm restoring currently has replacement flat-topped schaller tuners that aren't era accurate and kinda ugly. I want to get some clover leaf style tuners, as these feel accurate to the 70s aesthetic, plus I love how they look. It seems the current production 4003 tuners look exactly the ...

Bringing life back to 70s neck inlays?
I have a 1975 4001 with (mother of pearl?) shark fin inlays that have turned yellowish brown over the years. https://i.imgur.com/mQtfy6H.jpg I was curious if the inlays can be cleaned or the surface lightly buffed to bring about a brighter appearance? Figured the color might be that way throughout, ...

Re: Size of slotted screws for Rick knobs?
Yes, the knob set screws. Would be nice if Rickenbacker would publish what size they use, but yeah, I'll do what you suggested. Thanks!

Size of slotted screws for Rick knobs?
Somehow lost one of the slotted screws in my '75 Rick 4001 volume knob - anyone know the size so I can get another? Hoping they sell packs at Home Depot or something. Thanks!
