Re: Ric Pickguard Material - Light Transmission Info Questio
I have a Pickguardian on my 4001 and it's great, but it is very white, as are the original RIC ones on my late '90s 340. I'm not sure if 50 years of aging has caused some discolouration, but the original, cracked guard on the 1998 is definitely a 'warmer' white, and I'm hoping the Plexiglas has the ...

Re: Ric Pickguard Material - Light Transmission Info Questio
Old thread, I know, but does anyone know of a supplier who can post small quantities (a couple of pickguard's worth) to Australia? The website, above, does not post outside Europe, and directed me to the Australian distributor that stated they don't stock that particular product in Aus. I need to ma...

Thanks Jeff.
I think modifying the truss cover will be the way to go after all.

Re: wanted: 1 x Black plastic tuning peg bushing for 4001
It's a fairly poor homemade job, printed on a clear transparency sprayed with a rattle can of gold paint by myself. Looks fine from 3 feet, but up close, or when you remove it from the head stock, it looks exactly like what it actually is. The cover that sits on top of the transparency is 3 mm acryl...

wanted: 1 x Black plastic tuning peg bushing for 4001
First post in a number of years! I've changed the truss rod cover on my '77 4001 to gold plexi, but the cover is a different shape to the molded plastic one and thus sits on one of the tuner bushings. If I had a spare one, I'd take a nick out of it so the truss rod sits flat, but I don't want to hac...

Re: Question about colors/years
I, too would almost certainly say Walnut, even without photos.
I think a botched FireGlo would be fairly obvious to you, and satin AutumnGlo is not only less common throughout the whole 70s/80s, it is even less so as late '86.

Re: Question about colors/years
The point I was going for was that, although a few extant anomalies have come to light, I don't think it's correct to state that generally "there was also an overall gloss transparent brown called Walnut at that time" if we are referring to colour availability. If we were to include all on...

Re: Question about colors/years
...there was also an overall gloss transparent brown called Walnut at that time. I'm not sure this is correct. I don't think the non-burst Walnuts were ever a standard colour, but simply occasional anomalies. Only a handful of these have ever come up, so I think it's unlikely there were a regularly...

Re: Rose Morris Advertisements 1964
I think there must be at least 2 distinct shading variations here - the guitar you originally posted as redburst (2nd from right in group shot of 4 above) seems to be red all the way across i.e. very dark cherry red at sides and light red in the centre; whereas there also seems to be a more normal ...

Re: Fretless non-burst Walnut 4001
Here, here!
I own both a Walnut and an AutumnGlo 4001, and wish either (or even Montezuma Brown for that matter) were a regular production colour.
@ JH: Bring back brown! Bring back brown! Bring back brown!

Re: Fretless non-burst Walnut 4001
How rare are these? When you say "these" , are you referring to fretless 4001s, or non-burst Walnut finishes? Fretless 4001s account for 49 of the 2067 total 4001s in the registry, which puts them at about 2.3% of 4001 production. I don't know how to search for non-burst walnuts in the re...

Re: what about this rick does it look right
check the serial number on the RIC corporate site. That will tell you what year and month it was made and it will confirm its authenticity. The RIC website does not actually use genuine serial number records on it's serial decoder, but rather uses an alogorithm to determine what date the guitar wou...

Re: 4005 copy on the 'Bay
why is that illegal? I believe it's illegal because it infringes on Rickenbacker's trademark of the design. It doesn't matter that the seller is honest about the fact that it's a copy - forgery is not the issue here, it's theft of intellectual property that is the problem. This comes up on the foru...
